DSWC/USA team wins men's and women's freestyle, takes third in Greco-Roman at the Henri Deglane Chal

Despite an especially strong field, the Dave Schultz WC/USA team took home top honors  in men and women's freestyle and finished third in Greco-Roman at the 2002 Henri DeGlane Challenge, Nice France    This year, 22 countries participated in the event, highlighted by teams from Russia, Iran and Ukraine.    The Dave Schultz WC/USA team put six in the finals and came away with four individual champions.  The individual champions included two Women's World Team members Patricia Miranda at 55 kg and Sara McMann at 63 kg, plus two men's freestyle wrestlers including 2000 Olympian Cary Kolat at 66 kg and Kirk White at 74 kg.    Kolat won five matches in the tournament, including two pins and a technical fall. He defeated Andrey Staonik of Ukraine in the finals match, 9-1.    White went 4-1 in the event, losing his opening match in overtime, but rallying for four straight wins for the title. IN the finals match, he edged Raza Ramazanzadeh, 5-4.    For the first time, the U.S. had women compete in this event, and swept the two weight classes up for grabs.    Miranda wrestled up two weight classes from her normal 105.5 pounds. She won four matches including a pair of technical falls, with a 9-1 win over Camille Saillard of France in the finals. McMann won three times, with two technical falls and a 6-1 win in the finals over Elodie Aucaigne of France.    Winning silver medals were a pair of Greco-Roman wrestlers, Joe Warren of the Michigan WC at 132 pounds and Mike Ellsworth of the Michigan WC at 145.5 pounds.    Warren won four matches to reach the finals, where he dropped an 11-0 technical fall to Weriliov Shevtsov of Russia. Ellsworth swept his first three matches, losing only to Roman Gromou of Russia in the finals, 4-0.    This year, 22 countries participated in the event, highlighted by teams from Russia, Iran and Ukraine.
