The 2002 U.S. Greco-Roman Winter Tour will get underway on Nov. 30 with the Haparanda Cup in Haparanda, Sweden and will continue with the Vantaa Cup in Vantaa, Finland Dec. 7-8. The U.S. will send two teams to compete in these events. The two teams will consist of athletes competing for individual clubs, the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Marine Corps. Among the U.S. athletes are Lindsay Durlacher (Colorado Springs, Colo./Wildcat WC) at 55 kg/121 lbs., Jacob Hey (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Air Force) at 60 kg/132 lbs., Steve Woods (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Air Force) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Darryl Christian (Colorado Springs, Colo./Dave Schultz WC) at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Corey Farkas (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Air Force) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Durlacher placed second at the 2002 U.S. Greco-Roman Team Trials in the summer. Hey finished fourth in the 1999 Haparanda Cup and sixth in the 2001 Haparanda Cup. Woods placed sixth in the 1999 Haparanda Cup. Christian and Farkas are both members of the 2002 U.S. Greco-Roman National Team. Christian placed third at the 2002 U.S. World Team Trials while Farkas was a runner-up to 2002 World Champion Dremiel Byers (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army). Both are first-time competitors in this event and will only compete in the Vantaa Cup. Also competing for the U.S. Team are Joe Warren (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 60 kg/132 lbs., Cory Posey (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., 2002 Sunkist Kids/ASU International Open champion Brandon McNab (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 74 kg/163 lbs., 2001 Armed Forces champion Aaron Sieracki (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Air Force) at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Philip Johnston (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Air Force). Warren will compete only in the Vantaa Cup. The team will be coached by Rich Estrella of Colorado Springs, Colo. The U.S. Marine Corps team will be led by Marcel Cooper (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. Cooper recently placed second at the Yuri Lavrikov Memorial Tournament in St. Petersburg, Russia on Nov. 15 at 74 kg/163 lbs. Also on the U.S. Marine Corps team are Duaine Martin (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 60 kg/132 lbs., Jake Clark (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 74 kg/163 lbs., Ken Owens (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Dan Hicks (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Martin placed third at the 2002 U.S. Greco-Roman Team Trials and was ninth at the 2002 CISM World Military Championships. At the 2000 Haparanda Cup, Clark placed third, Owens placed second and Hicks placed fourth. Owens placed fourth at last year's Haparanda Cup and fourth at the 1999 Vantaa Cup as well. Hicks placed second at both the Haparanda Cup and Vantaa Cup in 1999 and fourth in the Vantaa Cup in 2000. The U.S. Marine Corps team will be coached by Jay Antonelli of Quantico, Va.
