TheMat.com Projected West Region Finish: 1. Northern Iowa 2. Fresno State 3. Air Force 4. Wyoming 5. Eastern Illinois Not much should change with the landscape of the West Region this season. All five teams returns a wealth of starters, but as a whole, this conference has lost five out of seven All-Americans from last year. Northern Iowa loses two All-Americans but their lineup should not suffer much. All-American Paul Hynek (285) is back along with Dylan Long (141), a popular pick to win a national title last season. This team should win this region uncontested this season unless injuries begin to plague them. Fresno State loses possibly the best wrestler in school history, but the return of NCAA qualifiers Eddie Gifford (174) and Marcio Botehlo (197) leave a lot of hope for this squad. There is some youth and inexperience in the lighter weights, so this team will rely heavily on the middle of their lineup for wins and points. Air Force lost two All-Americans from last season, but Kevin Hoy (285) does return. Overall, the Falcons bring back seven starters. Big things will be expected out of Heath McKim (125) this season. If he can have a breakout year, the Falcons could be in the top 20 at the end of the season. Wyoming will be very strong in the upper weights with the return of NCAA qualifier Levi Prevost (165). The Cowboys bring back everyone from 165-285 and all are solid. However, the first two weights will be filled by freshman, which could be the achilles heel of this team. Eastern Illinois brings back most of their lineup as well. This team will be much improved and much more competitive, but they don't have the firepower throughout their lineup necessary to beat the top teams in this region. Frank DeFilippis (157) was a regional champion last year and will be looking to improve on a national level. TEAM PREVIEWS: AirForce Eastern Illinois Fresno State Northern Iowa Wyoming
