TheMat.com Projected East Region Finish: 1. Millersville 2. Slippery Rock 3. Duquesne 4. Gardner-Webb 5. Delaware State The East Region loses a member and gains another this year. American drops out and moves over to the EIWA, but Gardner-Webb, who will finally get to compete in the postseason this year, moves in to fill their shoes. This arrival automatically makes the East Region tougher, though it will still take some time to gain some more NCAA qualifiers. Millersville and Slippery Rock should battle each other for the team title. Millersville returns two NCAA qualifiers, Jesse Reed (165) and Curtis Yeager (174), but lose two others. With that, the Marauders return four other regional placewinners. Add in their experience as the top team in this region, and it will be a tough task for anyone to overcome them. Slippery Rock returns three regional finalists, Brad Cieleski (149), Corey Hart (197) and Bob McKillop (285), alongside four other regional placewinners. This is a deep squad, and under new coach Jim Harshaw, their technical skills should be much improved. Duquesne returns three regional champions, Darren McLane (133), Bill Boeh (165) and Jeff Moskyok (184), which is why this team could actually win the region as well. But they have a couple of holes to fill in the lineup, which may set this team back some. Gardner-Webb steps in this year and will be an immediate contender. Not too many people know about the kids in their lineup, but they are talented. Erik Wince (174) and Brent Blackwell (184) are their two best wrestlers, both coming off redshirt years. But this lineup is solid up and down, including at 125, 157 and 285. This team could send three or four wrestlers to the NCAA Tournament. Delaware State is going to struggle this year. The region has gotten better, and so have they, but not enough. There is no depth on this roster and just one injury could destroy this team.
