WEST POINT, N.Y.   Army head wrestling coach Chuck Barbee today announced that he has hired Todd Chesbro as his top assistant. Chesbro, a former teammate of Barbee's at Oklahoma State University in the late 1980s and early 1990s, is the first step in a process to help restore the Army wrestling program to a position of prominence in college wrestling. Barbee and Chesbro were teammates on the 1989 and 1990 national championship teams at Oklahoma State with Chesbro being a national runner-up at 167 pounds in 1992.     "I couldn't be happier with the hiring of Todd Chesbro," Chuck Barbee said. "He has the background, the work ethic and commitment required to be one of the best assistant coaches in the country.     "Having been a three-time NCAA All-America and four-time high school state champion, Todd knows only success. That attitude and level of success is the primary reason for bringing Todd on staff as my head assistant."    Chesbro is getting back into wrestling after spending the last five years working in the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office. Before that, he served as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of Oklahoma (1993-94) and worked overseas as a trainer with Des Lutteurs Wrestling Club in Martigny, Switzerland.    "I'm very excited about the opportunity," Chesbro said. "It is something I have always wanted to do. Wrestling is a part of me. I didn't want to be 40 or 50 years old and look back and say, 'I wish I had done that.'"    Chesbro graduated from Oklahoma State in 1992 as a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and from the University of Oklahoma's Law School in December of 1996. He is a member of both the Oklahoma Bar Association and the National Bar Association. He was also an Academic All-America during his career at Oklahoma State.     "Todd's proven experience as a winner both in the classroom and on the mat will be invaluable to the Army wrestling team in our quest to build a top-notch program," Barbee said.    "The type of student-athlete that attends West Point is the type coaches want to coach," Chesbro added. "They are the type of person who works hard and has the desire and dedication to be the best."
