Arizona State to help host Sunkist Kids/ASU International Open, Nov. 4-5

TEMPE, Ariz.  - Many of the top wrestlers from around the world will be showcased at the 16th Annual Sunkist Kids/Arizona State International Open Saturday, Nov. 4 through Sunday, Nov. 5 at Desert Vista High School in Ahwautukee, Ariz.     Wrestlers representing various nations and U.S. Olympic wrestling clubs will be competing, in addition to several current and former members of the ASU wrestling team and two members of the Sun Devil coaching staff.  The tournament features men's freestyle, men's Greco-Roman and women's freestyle competition.    Current ASU wrestlers competing this weekend include freshman Evan Larkin (Tucson, Ariz.), sophomore Nick Frost (Tucson, Ariz.), sophomore Hector Torres (Rosemead, Calif.) and sophomore Kellan Fluckiger (Preston, Idaho).  Also competing will be Sun Devil assistant coach Aaron Simpson, a two-time All-American at ASU, and volunteer assistant coach Mark Smith, a three-time All-American at Oklahoma State.    Former Sun Devil standouts will be participating in the international event, including All-Americans Danny Felix, Marco Sanchez and Markus Mollica, a two-time national champion.    Also competing will be wrestlers from the following Olympic Clubs: Sunkist Kids, Dave Schultz Wrestling Club, New York Athletic Club, Hawkeye Wrestling Club and the Minnesota Storm.  Members of the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army wrestling teams will also take to the mat, while foreign teams making the trip to the Valley of the Sun include Japan, Romania, Canada and Bulgaria.    Tournament action begins Saturday with the first session at 9 a.m. and the second session at 4 p.m.  Preliminary rounds conclude at 9 a.m. on Sunday, followed by the finals at 2 p.m.  Tickets, sold at the door, are $15 for an all-session pass, or $5 for an adult individual session ticket and $3 for children.    The 2000-01 Sun Devil wrestling squad officially begins the season Sunday, Nov. 12 at the Cal Open in Fullerton, Calif.
