BEDARD, VAN ARSDALE WIN GOLD MEDALS AT CISM WORLD MILITARY FREESTYLE CHAMPIONSHIPS, OCTOBER 28-29, AS USA PLACES SECOND IN TEAM RACE    Two U.S. freestyle wrestlers claimed gold medals at the CISM World Freestyle Championships at Camp LeJeune, N.C., Oct. 28-29: Jeff Bedard of the U.S. Army at 138.75 pounds and Mike Van Arsdale of the U.S. Army at 213.75 pounds.    The CISM World Championships are the world wrestling championships for military athletes. The best military wrestlers from across the world, including many international wrestling stars, competed this week.    Bedard won four straight matches, defeating each of the other athletes in his weight class. A key victory came in the first round, when he beat eventual silver medalist Vladimir Chamula of Slovakia, 4-1.  He clinched the gold with a  9-1 win over Surigalatu of China in the final session.    Van Arsdale also had a 4-0 record in the tournament. His most challenging bout also came in the first session, when he defeated eventual silver medalist Nikos Kidros of Greece, 3-0. Van Arsdale closed the competition with a quick 35 second pin over Ruicai Li of China in the final session.    Van Arsdale, a top international star for many years, indicated after the victory that his competitive career would be ending, and that he would now concentrate on coaching. "I've got a family now. I've got a wife and two kids. I need to take care of them instead of running around everywhere wrestling."    Three U.S. wrestlers claimed silver medals: Eric Albarracin of the U.S. Army at 119 pounds, Jason Kutz of the U.S. Army at 127.75 pounds and Joey Clark of the U.S. Marines at 167.5 pounds.    Albarracin had a 2-1 record in the tournament, losing only to gold-medalist Erdine Kirbiyik of Turkey, 4-1. Kutz went 1-1 in the event, with a 6-3 loss to champion Junyong Liu of China in the finals. Clark won his first two matches, then was defeated in the championship match by Bulent Dagdimir of Germany, 12-5.     Turkey won the team title with 69 points and three champions. The USA and China had 65 team points, but the United States won the second place trophy because they had the most pins. Germany was fourth and Greece was fifth.    The U.S. team was led by head coach Jay Antonelli of the U.S. Marines and assistant coach Greg Gibson of the U.S. Marines.The U.S. team was determined based upon results at the 2000 Armed Forces Championships.    On Thursday, the Greco-Roman competition was completed, with Turkey claiming the team title, followed by the United States and Germany.
