Eleven wrestlers win the prestigious Kids Triple Crown titles at the National Kids Championships in Waterloo, Iowa, July 8    Eleven wrestlers win the prestigious Kids Triple Crown titles at the National Kids Championships in Waterloo, Iowa, July 8     Freestyle champions were crowned at three age divisions at the 2000 USA Wrestling National Kids Wrestling Championships, at Young Arena in Waterloo, Iowa, July 8. Competition was held at the Midget (9-10 years), Novice (11-12 years) and Schoolboy/girl (13-14 years) divisions.     Eleven wrestlers won the prestigious USA Wrestling Kids Triple Crown. To win, an athlete must win USA Wrestling national titles in folkstyle, Greco-Roman and freestyle titles in the same year. The 2000 USA Wrestling Kids Folkstyle Championships were held in Topeka, Kan. in April.     The 2000 Triple Crown winners include Midget wrestlers David Taylor of Evanston, Wyoming (60), Riley Adamson of Albuquerque, New Mexico (65), Ryan Konrath of Elkhart, Indiana (87) and Atticus Disney of Andover, Kansas (120).     The Triple Crown Novice winners were Jonathan Reader of Lapeer, Michigan (90) and Mike May of LeSueur, Minnesota (140++).     The Schoolboy/girl Triple Crown winners include Lance Palmer of Columbia, Ohio (75), Brent Metcalf of Davison, Michigan (115), Brandon Mason of Shenandoah, Iowa (130), Patrick Bond of Chesapeake, Virginia (150) and Kyle Massey of Blaine, Minnesota (160+).     Two wrestlers won the Triple Crown in 1997, eight in 1998, ten in 1999 and 11 in 2000. Two wrestlers have now won the Triple Crown more than once. Jon Dahl of Minnesota, a 1997 and 1999 winner became the first to win the Triple Crown twice. Adamson has now become the second double Triple Crown champion with wins in 1999 and 2000.     Twenty-eight wrestlers were double champions, winning both the freestyle and Greco-Roman titles this year. Double champions in the Midget division are Taylor, Adamson, Konrath and Disney and Travis Rutt of Belle Plaine, Minnesota (70), Dustin Martin of Liberty, Utah (80), Ryan Konrath of Elkhart, Indiana (87), Andrew Wilson of Anchorage, Alaska (95) D'Andre Jimerson of Omaha, Nebraska (103) and Sam Brownlee of Pittsburgh, PA (120+).     Double champions in the Novice division were Reader and May, plus Jimmy Kennedy of Fox Lake, Illinois (70), Ty Lorenz of La Crosse, Wisconsin (80), John Sundgren of Coon Rapids, Minnesota (85), Vincent Salminen of Billings, MT (100) Tucker Lane of Redvale, Colorado (120), Skip Crooks, Buffalo, Wyoming (130) and Cory Freeland of Shelby, North Carolina (140).     Double champions in the Schoolboy/girl division were Palmer, Metcalf, Mason, Bond, Massey and Mike Rodrigues of Kennewick, Washington (85), Dustin Schlatter of Westerville, Ohio (100), Narles Layne of Helena, MT (140) and Cosell Beavers of Maybee, MI (160+++).     A record 511 athletes entered the Greco-Roman competition this year. Freestyle had 638 entries for a record total of 1,149 wrestlers. This is 19 more than 1999.
