BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Former Campbell University standout wrestler Billy Greene has been named as an assistant coach by head coach Dave Auble. A native of Lewiston, Idaho, Greene returns to assist his former coach with all aspects of the daily operations of the wrestling program. "I'm excited to be back," said Greene. "Sometimes people don't take advantage of the opportunities that are presented to them while they are attending school. It took me being away from the Campbell community to see how special it is." Greene, a member of the wrestling team from 1996-2000, finished his career with 74 wins, which ranks 10th all-time in CU history. Greene qualified for the NCAA Division I tournament in 2000 when he won the 157-pound title at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships. He finished the 1999-2000 campaign with a 27-5 mark and was selected team MVP and Campbell's Outstanding Male Athlete. A standout in the classroom as well as on the mat, Greene was selected to the National Wrestling Coaches Association's All-Academic second team in 2000. That same, year Greene and his teammates ranked sixth academically among Division I programs. "Billy's return is a tremendous opportunity for our program," said Auble. "It is very beneficial to have an alumnus on the coaching staff with the success Billy had both athletically and academically. He is one of the best mat technicians and people I have had the opportunity to coach." Greene is currently pursing his graduate degree in education from his alma mater.
