Ali Gumas of Turkey, a journalist who heads the AIPS Wrestling Commission, predicted the most winners among journalists polled by TheMat.com from the 2002 World Freestyle Wrestling Championships. Gumas selected winners in three of the seven weight classes, with the choices of Harun Dogan of Turkey (60 kg), Adam Saitiev of Russia (84 kg) and David Moussoulbes of Russia (120 kg). Unlike the other journalists, Gumas selected the nation to win each weight class, rather than the specific individual, and also predicted the other medalists. Of the eight journalists who agreed to predict the winners, three were able to get two of the champions correct. They were Eddie Goldman of Grappling Magazine (U.S.), Heidi Peterson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (U.S.) and wrestling fan Sina Etemadi of the U.S. All three selected Adam Saitiev of Russia (84 kg) and David Moussoulbes of Russia (120 kg). Two journalists had zero selections correct, Gary Abbott of TheMat.com and Behrang Sohrabi of IranSportsPress.com Thanks to all journalists and fans who took the time to have some fun and predict the winners. TheMat.com is currently polling U.S. and international journalists for their selections for the Greco-Roman World Championships in Moscow, Russia, Sept. 19-21. Those picks will be posted on TheMat.com next week. Journalists will also be asked to predict winners at the Women's World Championships in Greece in November.
