KHODAEE CRUISES INTO QUARTERFINALS AFTER BEATING UZBEK WRESTLER      Tehran, Sept 6, IRNA -- Majid Khodaee here Thursday afternoon successfully finished a close bout against Aslan Sanakoev from  Uzbekistan and proceeded to the quarterfinals of 2002 World Wrestling Championships.                                                            Khodaee defeated Sanakoev 4-2 in extra time after the two tied 2-2 in normal time.                                                       Earlier in the day, Khodaee had got past Greek Lazaros Loizidis, and Fowad Garayev from Azerbaijan. Barzakov (BUL)     MIKHEIL JAPARIDZE éLIMINé AU PREMIER TOUR -- CHRISTIAN JUTRAS, SPORTCOM    Championnat du monde de lutte Mikheil Japaridze éliminé au premier tour    Montréal, 5 septembre 2002 (Sportcom) - L'aventure de Mikheil Japaridze au championnat du monde de lutte à Téhéran (Iran) aura été de courte durée. Le Montréalais, qui combat chez les 55 kg, a en effet été éliminé lors du premier jour de la compétition, s'inclinant dans ses deux combats de premier tour.    À son premier duel, le lutteur de 31 ans a perdu un match serré contre U. Tuganbay, du Kirghizistan, par la marque de 4-1. Plus tard en journée, Japaridze n'a pu rivaliser avec le médaillé d'argent des derniers Jeux olympiques, le Grec Amiral Kartanov, s'avouant vaincu au compte de 6-1.     "Mikheil a connu un lent départ contre Tuganbay et c'est sûrement ce qui lui a coûté le match ", a souligné Dave McKay, l'entraîneur de l'équipe canadienne.    Ewers en quart de finale    De son côté, Neal Ewers (66 kg), de la Colombie-Britannique, a connu une journée sans faille alors qu'il a remporté ses trois combats. Il a tout d'abord facilement disposé d'un Français (10-0) et d'un Estonien (9-1), puis il a infligé un revers au Moldave Boelisteanu, qui était jusqu'alors invaincu.    Vendredi en quart de finale, Ewers devra se mesurer au favori local et champion olympique, l'Iranien Alireza Dabir. Cette journée marquera aussi l'entrée en scène du Canadien Daniel Igali (74 kg), médaillé d'or olympique chez les 69 kg et champion mondial en titre.    À noter que le Montréalais Guivi Sissaouri, champion en titre chez les 58 kg, n'est pas à Téhéran pour tenter de conquérir le premier titre mondial de la nouvelle catégorie des 60 kg. Celui-ci a préféré demeurer auprès de sa famille.    MAJID KHODAEI IN THE SEMI-FINAL OF 84 KG  from IranSports Press    TEHRAN- September 05 (IranSportsPress.com): Majid Khoadei is in to the semi-final of the 84-Kg afterdefeating his opponent from Uzbekistan 4-2 after extra time.    Khodaei and his opponent finished 1-1 after the first 6 minutes, and with only one minute left in the extra time it was 2-2, however Khodaei managed to get 2 points and come out the winner 4-2.    Khodaei had earlier won his first bout 8-2 against an opponent from Azerbaijan, and won his second bout  against an opponent from Greece 4-3.    DABIR INTO QUARTERFINALS  from varzeshkar.com    VK -- Alireza Dabir, the Iranian olympic gold medalist, and former world champion has beaten Kazui Ikematsu of Japan by the score of 6-4 and is now in the quarterfinals of the 66 KG weight category.     Alireza Dabir made most of the home visitors as he was cheered by the 12,000 seated Azadi complex filled to capacity. His next match will be the quarterfinal match against the Canadian Neal Ewers on Friday.     The 2002 world freestyle championships is being held at the Azadi complex in Tehran and started today and will end on Saturday, Sept. 7th. USA decided not to  attend due to security reasons.     THE IRANIAN PRESIDENT TAKES PART   from varzeshkar.com    VK- The much anticipated event went underway today, Many people have commented that the world championship in Tehran won't be the same as a result of America being absent, but today that was not the case, Iranians tuned into television and watched the event like any other wrestling competition which Iran has participated or hosted and some were lucky enough to attend the matches as tickets were sold out before the matches started and many people were forced to stand on long lines.     Today The Iranian president President Mohammad Khatami also attended some parts of this event showing his support for athletes from around the world , The Iranian president looked happy and excited through his visit as the crowd cheered him, The president would probably have not attended the match if USA was participating in the event.     The last time the world championship was held in Tehran , team USA did attend the competition and the Iranian president called for people to go out and cheer Americans and Iranian alike.    DABIR INTO QUARTERFINALS AFTER BEATING JAPANESE WRESTLER     Tehran, Sept 5, IRNA -- Iran's most tipped for a gold medal in the 66  kilo weight category, Alireza Dabir, Thursday afternoon outpowered  Japanese wrestler Kazui Ikematsu 6-4 to breeze into quarterfinals.        Dabir, cheered loudly by 12,000 spectators in the full-capacity  Azadi Stadium, put out a splendid showing to set his next bout  against Canadian Neal Ewers Friday morning.                               Among the spectators was Iranian President Mohammad Khatami who inaugurated the 2002 World Freestyle Wrestling Championships, Tehran.     Dabir had earlier in the day cruised past Chinese Li Chuan 9-2.  He is among the most glorious title holders in the Iranian  wrestling, who holds the 2001 World silver at 63 kg and Olympic gold  medal at 58 kg in Sydney, and also the 1998 World gold medal at 58 kg weight category.
