Evanston, Ill. - Rob Eiter has been named assistant coach of the Northwestern wrestling team. Eiter takes over the second assistant post after spending four years at NU as a volunteer assistant. Eiter will help the Wildcats in every aspect of the program. "I'm excited to get back into it," Eiter said. "The team right now is turning the corner, and we're starting to get some quality kids. I am happy to be part of the program with the way it is heading." Eiter brings a lot of experience and success to Northwestern. He coached as an assistant at Clarion University from 1993-98 where he helped Sheldon Thomas win an NCAA Championship. While at Clarion, Eiter also coached the school's first ever four-time All-American, Bryan Stout, and five others to All-American status. In 1999, Eiter coached the women's world championship team. As a wrestler, Eiter was a member of the 1992 and 1996 Olympic freestyle teams and the 1993 and 1995 World Championship teams. Eiter was also a five-time U.S. Open national champion and two-time World Cup silver medalist. "Rob is going to be a great asset to the program," said NU Head Coach Tim Cysewski. "His experience and wrestling technique is excellent, and he'll be great for recruiting wrestlers to compete at Northwestern."
