Pat Popolizio Joins Seras at Sacred Heart

Fairfield, Conn. - Former Oklahoma State wrestler Pat Popolizio has been named as the assistant head coach at Sacred Heart Univ.    Popolizio is originally from Niskayuna, N.Y., where he attended the same high school of Sacred Heart head coach Andy Seras at Niskayuna High School.    "I really needed help in the upper weights. He is a guy that I have known for many years, so I know what I am getting," stated Seras, who will coach the 2002 U.S. Greco-Roman World Team at the World Championships in Moscow, Russia from September 4-7. "I think he's going to be fired up and have a positive attitude. He's been through wars at the highest level and that's what the guys in our program are going to need."    Popolizio enjoyed a successful career while at Oklahoma State. He recorded a 90-38 career record and qualified for the NCAA Tournament three times. He was the Big XII Conference runner-up in 1998 and 2002 at 184 lbs. He placed third at the 1997 Big XII Championships.    In high school, Popolizio was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the New York state tournament as a senior. He finished with a career record of 111-4.    Popolizio is the son of Debbie and Frank Popolizio and has two older brothers, Anthony and Frank.
