Ed Gould of New York and Pete DiBiase of New Jersey have been named 2002 USA Wrestling Junior Persons of the Year. This award goes to a leader who works with athletes and programs on the Junior level (grades 9-12). Gould serves as the State Chairperson for New York. He was instrumental in organizing the first New York teams to compete at the Junior National Dual Meet Championships, as well as the Cadet National Dual Meet Championships. He has been an active participant with the USA Wrestling Junior Olympic Committee. Gould is a member of the US Wrestling Officials Association, serving as a pairing official. He regularly works USA Wrestling events at all age levels in the Northeast, as well as at the major USA Wrestling national events. He has been a leader in wrestling on many levels in New York. He serves as a Board member of the Metropolitan Wrestling Association. He was also named as the Assistant Competition Manager of the World Championships, which had been scheduled in New York City in 2001. He is also very active with high school and youth wrestling in his community. DiBiase has been a volunteer leader with New Jersey USA Wrestling for over 20 years. He has held many leadership positions with the state association, doing whatever was necessary to support wrestling in New Jersey. DiBiase has been a leader in the development of the "New Jersey Developmental Training Center." The program started as a series of developmental clinics in Greco-Roman, with the goal of improving the skills and performance of "Team New Jersey Greco." After two successful seasons helping many young athletes in the state improve in Greco-Roman, DiBiase expanded this program this year to include both freestyle and Greco-Roman. According to its web page, "the objective of the New Jersey Developmental Training Site is to develop an athlete's positive attitude, leadership qualities and self-discipline. It will develop the athlete's physical strength, technique, coordination, balance, and agility. Wrestlers will improve their wrestling skills and represent the State of New Jersey at both National and International competitions." Working with other dedicated leaders, the New Jersey Developmental Training Center has helped more than 100 dedicated wrestlers to improve in the international styles. In order to commit more time to this effort, DiBiase gave up his paid position as head wrestling coach at Bishop Eustace High School in order to concentrate on this new program.
