ENID, Okla. - Six young men walked away with Triple Crown honors following the Freestyle finals of the 2002 Kids Greco-Roman and Freestyle National Championships in Enid, Okla. this weekend. Atop the awards stand for the second time this weekend was the talented 80-pound Novice Riley Adamson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who claimed his fourth consecutive Triple Crown award with his win today. To win the Triple Crown a wrestler must win gold at the Kids Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco-Roman National Championships in the same year. Adamson captured Triple Crowns in the Midget 55 category in 1999, Midget 65 in 2000, Novice 75 pounds in 2001, and this year at Novice 80 pounds. Adamson secured his fourth honor today with a :50 fall over Joshua Wiseman (Brooklyn Park, Minnesota) in the finals. Capturing his second consecutive Triple Crown was Atticus Disney (Andover, Kansas) in the Novice 140+ Pound class. Disney earned his first Triple Crown in 2000 in the 120-pound Midget division, and secured the 2002 140+ Freestyle National Championship and Triple Crown honor today with a fall over Michael Patenaude (Clay Center, Kansas) at 1:54. Four other wrestlers were awarded their first Triple Crown honors with wins the Freestyle finals today. In the Schoolboy division, Collin Dozier (Virginia Beach, Virginia) won 5-1 over John Sundgren (Coon Rapids, Minnesota) in the Freestyle finals, and 6-0 over Sundgren in the Greco-Roman division. At 160+ pounds, Matt Panasevich (Svsq, Pennsylvania) secured his Triple Crown honor with an 11-1 technical fall over Marcus Lopez (Alaska) in the Freestyle finals. Earning Triple Crowns in the Midget Division were Blake Sorensen (Cedar Falls, Iowa) at 70 pounds and Zachary Skates (Broken Arrow, Oklahoma) at 95 pounds. Both young men defeated the same opponent in both Greco and Freestyle competition to sure the honor. Sorensen defeated Cody Shavlik (Derby, Kansas) 8-2 in the Greco finals and 12-1 in today's Freestyle finals. Skates defeated first-year wrestler Sean Datte of Aliso Viejo, California with finals falls at 1:53 in Greco and 1:25 in Freestyle competition. Three wrestlers who were in the running for the Triple Crown after Greco competition earlier this week fell short in Freestyle competition. At 70-pounds Novice, Riley Ewalt (Hubbardston, Michigan) lost a round-robin match in pool competition Friday to Nicholas Lester (Wildwood, Missouri), who went on to win the gold. Ewalt took third place in freestyle with an 8-4 decision over Kyle Bradley (St. Peters, Missouri). At 130 Pounds Novice, Andrew Wilson (Anchorage, Alaska) dropped a close 5-4 decision to Caleb Lines (Jordan, Minnesota). And at 55 pounds Midget, Daniel Deshazer (Wichita, Kansas), who protested a pool final loss which was overturned and rewrestled to put him in the freestyle finals, lost a tight 5-4 decision to Cody Brewer (Kansas City, Missouri). In pool competition, Deshazer lost an overtime match 3-1 to Mark Grey (Dover, New Jersey). Deshazer's coaches protested the match because the overtime clinch position was awarded to Grey based on a technical mistake by officials. The protest committee upheld the protest and the match was rewrestled Saturday with Deshazer winning 6-2 to put him in the finals. With the rewrestled match Grey finished third in pool competition and went on to take fifth place with an 11-4 decision over Brenden Sullivan (Brentwood, California).
