Bloomington, Indiana -- Mike Mena, a four-time All-America at Iowa, has been named assistant wrestling coach at Indiana University, the athletic department announced today. "I am pleased to have someone of Mena's experience and intensity to join our staff. His competitive and coaching background will benefit the team." said head coach Duane Goldman.     He comes to Indiana after spending the last three years participating with the Hawkeye Wrestling Club, coached by the legendary Dan Gable. While with the Club, he trained in international freestyle wrestling. Mena also ran his own wrestling school where he coached several state and national champions of all ages.    Mena graduated from the University of Iowa in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in Art. At Iowa, he finished second at the NCAA Championship in 1997, won a Big Ten title in 1995 and finished second in 1996 and 1997.    Mena, 26, is a native of Rock Falls, Ill., where he was a four-time state champion in wrestling and recorded an impressive 157-0-1 prep record. While in high school, he he was first-team all-American as a junior while earning second-team honors as a senior.    "Coming to Indiana University to coach under Duane (Goldman) is a great opportunity not only for myself, but also my family," Mena said. "I am extremely excited to be here and I would like to send a special thanks to Coach Goldman for giving me this opportunity."     Mena and his wife, Kayle, will reside in Bloomington along with their two daughters Elisa, 7 years old, and Makaley, six weeks old.
