WASHINGTON, D.C.  - June 27, 2002 - The national outcry to reform the  Department of Education¹s Title IX policies is growing every day and the  formation of this Commission reflects that urgent need.  But the Commission  should be balanced with parties from all sides of the debate.    The College Sports Council represents the sports that are most adversely  affected by the gender quota and yet we have been excluded from the  Commission.  Since we have been the driving force behind the effort to  reform Title IX the coaches clearly deserve a seat at the table.    Many hundreds of men¹s collegiate athletic teams have been eliminated to  meet a harmful quota that was wrongly inserted into an otherwise terrific  law.  Nowhere else in American life would we tolerate gender discrimination  like that.  The nation¹s best and brightest student athletes deserve much  better.
