The CISM World Wrestling Championships, the world wrestling championships for military athletes, will be held at the Main Fieldhouse at the U.S. Marine base at Camp LeJeune, N.C., Oct. 25-29. The best military wrestlers from across the world, including many international wrestling stars, will battle for medals in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Over 18 nations are expected to participate, including world powers such as Russia, the United States, Turkey, China and Germany. Other confirmed nations include Finland, Croatia, Slovakia, France, Greece, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and the Guinea Republic. The U.S. team will be led by head coach Jay Antonelli of the U.S. Marines and assistant coach Greg Gibson of the U.S. Marines. A training camp for the wrestlers will be held at the U.S. Marines base in Quantico, Va. from October 12-23. The U.S. team was determined based upon results at the 2000 Armed Forces Championships. The U.S. team will feature a nationally respected athlete in each weight class, all who were active participants in the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team Trials process. Among the headline athletes is Glenn Nieradka (Fort Carson, Colo./U.S. Army), who placed second in the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
