On Thursday, May 24, an email from Gary Abbott, Director of Special Projects of USA Wrestling, was sent to some individuals suggesting people to contact leaders in Washington, D.C. concerning the Title IX issue.    Leaders in the women's sports community have been urging their constituents to contact their elected officials concerning Title IX right away. There is a concern from these individuals that there may be changes in the interpretation of the law very soon.    USA Wrestling also suggested that those in the wrestling with an opinion on the Title IX issue also contact these politicians. The email suggested using an on-line email program established on the Women's Sports Foundation web page.    A respected leader within the wrestling community, after speaking with contacts in Congress, has advised that those who oppose proportionality NOT use the Women's Sports Foundation (WSF) website to send their opinions to elected officials.    According to the Washington contacts, these emails are not often read closely. The fact that they are coming from the server from the WSF means that there is a good possibility that they are being counted as supporting the position of the WSF. This may not be the intention of those who were using the online letter to voice opposition to the current interpretation of the law.    In order to make sure your message is being counted as the position that you hold, it is recommended that you send your emails directly to the political leaders, rather than through the WSF server. If there is any doubt that your message may not be counted as you wish, we suggest going directly to the source.
