USA Wrestling has begun the election process for athlete representatives to serve on the USA Wrestling Athlete Advisory Committee (AAC). USA Wrestling is collecting nominations for positions on the committee. Athletes may nominate themselves or nominate another athlete for the election. To submit a nomination, contact National Teams Director Mitch Hull by June 1, 2002. He will accept nominations by phone (719-598-8181), FAX (719-598-9440), email (mhull@usawrestling.org) or mail at USA Wrestling, 6155 Lehman Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80918. Athletes that are interested in serving on the Athlete Advisory Committee must have competed in a major international competition within the past 10 years. In addition, the committee must consist of at least 50% of the athletes who have competed in the World, Olympic or Pan American Games events. The AAC meets by conference call approximately six times per year. In addition, these Athlete Representatives serve as members on the USA Wrestling Board of Directors, which currently meets twice a year (in August and either March or April). It is important that those elected are able to participate in the conference calls and the Board meetings. A letter with this information has been sent to athletes ranked in the top 12 in all styles during the last three seasons. When the nomination process is completed, there will be a vote by current active athletes. Those eligible to vote are athletes who have been ranked in the top six on the national team over the past four years. Voting will be style specific. The selection process will be completed prior to the World Team Trials, which is set for St. Paul, Minn., June 21-23. Those with questions should contact National Teams Director Mitch Hull at the USA Wrestling national headquarters.
