Evanston, Ill., May 2, 2002 - The finals of the 2002 University Nationals and FILA Cadet Nationals are set. The champions of Greco-Roman University Nationals will be eligible to compete in the 2002 Senior World Team Trials in St. Paul, Minn. on June 21-23.       In University Greco-Roman, returning champions Nathan Piasecki (60 kg), Darnell Lollis (66 kg), Mike Mathers (84 kg) and Andy Bowlby (120 kg) all earned trips to the finals with convincing wins.       Piasecki, Marquette, Mich. (USOEC) beat up on Matt Holt (Toro) with an 11-0 technical fall. He will face Willie Madison, Marquette, Mich. (USOEC), a training partner of his, in the 60 kg finals.       Lollis, also in Marquette, Mich., was just as strong in his 11-0 thrashing of Kelly Pederson, Becker, Minn. (U.S. Marines). Lollis will face former NCAA All-American Brett Lawrence of the Minnesota Storm, who escaped with a 3-2 win over Carson Bernard, Loveland, Col. (U.S. Marines).       Mathers (USOEC) came away with a gut-wrenching 10-1 decision over Tom Ciezki of the Wildcat WC - literally. Mathers controlled the match from start to finish, ending just short of technical superiority. He will match up with Jordan Holm, Cedar Falls, Ia. (Cat WC) in the finals. Holm, who will return to Northern Iowa next fall, squeaked out a 4-3 win over Justin Millard (USOEC). Holm held Millard off late in the match with solid defense on his feet to secure the win.       Bowlby, Corvallis, Ore. (Orange Crush) took a 4-0 lead in the first period against LeRoy Gardner, Golden Valley, Minn. (Minnesota Storm). He coasted from there to a 4-1 win to earn a trip to the finals, where he will face Paul Devlin, Ft. Carson, Col. (U.S. Army), who dominated young Greg Wagner, Ft. Wayne, Ind. (Unatt.), 11-0.       In other action, Tim Morris, Pittsfield, Mass. (Down East Stormers) won by technical fall over Trevor Person, Spokane, Wash. (U.S. Air Force) in the first match of a three-man round-robin at 50 kg. The other two matches will be wrestled on Friday morning.          At 55 kg, Joe Espinoza (USOEC) will meet Jared Esala, Stevens Point, Wis. (Unatt.) in the finals after pinning Ed Harris (U.S. Marines) late in the second period. Esala defeated Rudy Ruiz (Milwaukee Ringers), 5-3 for his finals birth.     John Paun, S. Holland, Ill. (N. Mich./USOEC) won a tight 4-0 decision over Joseph Manzello, Marquette, Mich. (USOEC), but his brother, Joseph, gave up too many late points against Pat Cadwallader, Anaheim, Calif. (S. California) in his 11-8 semifinal loss.       At 96 kg, Eli Ross (Minnesota Storm) will meet R.C. Johnson (USOEC) after each earned decisions in their semifinal matches.       In FILA Cadet Greco-Roman action, Illinois' Jon Isacson (54 kg), De'Andre Nunn (76 kg), Pat Brownson (85 kg) and Grant Miller (100 kg) all earned trips to the finals. The four finalists for Illinois were the most of any state. Miller won a Cadet Greco-Roman national title last summer in Fargo, N.D.       Coming in second, with three finalists, is Arizona. 46 kg Nick Gallick will face a formidable opponent in Oklahoma's Mike Bizzle for the national crown. Bizzle was a Cadet national runner-up last year at 83.5 pounds, while Gallick was a Cadet national champion at 88 pounds. At 42 kg, Henry Cejudo  will square off with Adam Kimbrell of Georgia, while 58 kg Angel Cejudo will meet up with Matt Stuart (New York).
