Leroy Vega vs. Brady Jones: Vega is wrestling Greco-Roman for the first time in four years. At the NCAA in Albany he was unsuccessful in his attempt to become an All-American as a senior and join the ranks of four-time All-Americans. Vega: "It was good to get the opening match jitters out of of the way. I had a tough opening match against Jones who is a great Greco wrestler. I hit a nice high dive and was able to get a touch fall." Dennis Hall on his 35 second opening match tech fall over Timothy Chess at the U.S.H.A. "Get it done as quick as I can. Less time on the mat means more recovery time for me. I'm here to win this." Reggie Wright: Gator WC on whether he has anything to prove after his collegiate career "I don't have anything to prove I just want to go out and prove my wrestling ability." Shon Lewis: Head coach WCAP (Army) on Keith Sieracki's incredible top position wrestler after his second consecutive tech. fall to open the tournament. "He believes he has the best lift. If you broke it down it's not perfect, but he really believes in his top work." Joe DeMeo: NYAC Coach on Kevin Bracken's look at his new weight class. "He doesn't look small at this weight. After Bracken moved up 7 pounds to the new 66 kg weight class." Yoshi Nakamura: Univ. of Penn All-American at 157 pounds, placed 3rd this year; on which style he enjoys more, freestyle or folkstyle "I definitely enjoy freestyle a lot more. A lot of the moves that I use like trips and foot props work a lot better in freestyle. Freestyle's more about balance and off-balancing opponents; turning and tilting them. Folkstyle is about grinding and holding on to guys." Brandon Slay: 2000 Olympic champion on whether or not he will make a return to competition. "I just don't know yet. I know that I'm missing wrestling and missing competing. But, your desire determines your destiny. Right now I just have to find out if my desire is at that high level so I can reach greater goals." Charles Burton: 2000 Olympian, NYAC on his first match of the day. "It was nice to get the first match of the day out of the way. I'm happy with my seed, it's all the same you just have to go out and beat everybody at this tournament." Mike Mena: on missing weight at the 55 kg division, NYAC "I just didn't make it, ya know...it's always tough to get down to weight. I just got to do a better job of controlling it and getting down quicker. With about 15 minutes to go I was still about three pounds over and I just didn't get it done." Lee Fullhart: Hawkeye WC, on his move to the Univ. of Tennessee Chattanooga "I'll still be training with Terry (Brands). No one trains like Tom and Terry, they're the best in the world." Tim Hartung: MN Storm, #2 seed at 96 kg on why is gut wrench is considered to be one of the best at his weight class. "Coach Morgan and all the other Greco guys that I work out with are really tough on top and I've learned a lot from them." Mark Dufrense: Lehigh on wrestling Cael Sanderson after being pinned in 2:50 "I'll be a tough match for him in this year. He always keeps moving, he never gets tired, he's always at the top of his game. You have to go out there thinking you can beat him. That will be hard unless you're really ready." Donny Pritzlaff, two-time Wis. champion in NCAA Div. I wrestling on training for the specific wrestling styles of the many tough wrestlers at his weight class "There's so many different good guys at this weight class. I really thought I'd have Cunningham at the weight class in the quarters. So, I spent more time preparing for him than on Joe Williams. He's been the elite guy at this weight for years. His blast double is really tough to prepare for. I won't know how prepared I am until I actually get to wrestle Joe." Brady Jones: Treehouse Athletic Club, on his return to Greco-Roman competition after taking time off for a Mormon mission and getting married. "I'm back training for Greco with our new coach, Ahad Javansalehi. He was a three-time Olympian and he'll be able to help me. My goal is to make the world team while I continue to go to school." Ramico Blackmon: on the birth of his two week old son, Samuel Lemont "It's awesome. It hasn't fully hit me yet. I'm learning to divide my attention between my family and wrestling. He's too young to come out here yet, so he's still back home with mom (Sue Lyn). So, I'm excited to get back home after this weekend." Stephan Abas: on his decision not to compete at the U.S. Nationals. "I just got done with a long season. It was about 10 months on continuous training for the world's and then the college season. My body was telling me that I needed a break. I'm not sure that we'll end up taking a freestyle team to Iran for the world's so I'm even debating about wrestling for the World Team Trials. I don't know for sure if any decision has been made on Iran, but it's definitely something that I've been thinking about." Matt Lamb: NYAC Greco-Roman heavyweight on his friendship with Rulon Gardner "We spend a lot of time talking on the phone these days since he has to spend so much time taking care of his feet with all of the rehab stuff he's doing. It's tough for him right now. It's not for sure that he'll be able to keep the rest of his toes. I think he's a little bit down right now and I think that's why he's not coming to Vegas to watch the wrestling. Hopefully he'll be able to keep his spirits up and make it through this all right." Duaine Martin: U.S. Marine Corps, on his decision to go down a weight class to 55 kg Greco-Roman "Jim Gruenwald and Kevin Bracken are biggest reason for dropping down. (laughing) I've been third the last couple of years up a weight class. There are still great wrestlers at 121 pounds, but I want to see what I can do at the this weight class. I'm happy with my career at this point so I'm not trying to prove anything. My goal is to make the World team and in 2004 I want to be in the Olympics. Wrestling is too tough of a sport to be satisfied with just being number three." Teague Moore: Number 1 seed at 55 kg freestyle on the possibility of wrestling Jody Strittmatter of the Hawkeye WC "Jody is really long. His length concerns me. I'll have to adjust my style if I face him. I'll have to be careful not to take bad shots. If I shoot my hi-c I'll have to finish quickly or else he'll be able to crotch-lift me." Jody Strittmatter: on being the tallest wrestler at the 55 kg weight class "It's not just about being the biggest guy at the weight. I've learned to use my length and leverage, that gets my opponents. I'm learning freestyle wrestling better all the time. I've really improved my top work." Strittmatter on his loss to the World champion at the Dave Schultz Memorial International "I was up on him by four points and I ended up losing the match. When you get an opportunity like that you have to take advantage of it and I didn't get it done. So really I didn't gain any confidence from that match. I've learned in wrestling that your wins are what motivate you." Steve Fraser: U.S. National Greco-Roman coach for USA Wrestling on why Greco-Roman wrestling is on the rise in the U.S. "The wrestlers are training better in the right areas of technique; such as par terre offense and defense. We believe that we can be the best in the world in Greco-Roman wrestling. Nationally, the Greco-Roman coaches across the country are coming together for the same purpose, to be the world's best!" Jeff Prescott: 1991-92 NCAA champion Penn State Univ., NYAC "The first match I was just getting loose and getting the bugs out. I have T.J. Hill in the quarters. T.J. is somebody you can't overlook. You have to be on your toes when you wrestle him." Hillary Wolf: on her transfer from Judo to women's wrestling "I had a lot of encouragement from the Greco guys. Guys like Matt Lindland, Kevin Bracken and of course Chris (Saba). I just wanted to give it a try after they'd been talking to me about it all this time. That's why I'm here." Chris Saba: fiancee to Hillary Wolf on another reason why she decided to wrestle "Sh
