USA Wrestling is pleased to announce the airdates of the action from this weekend's Las Vegas 2002 United States National Wrestling Championships, which is being hosted at the Las Vegas Convention Center, April 26-27. For the first time, the event will air on two different national cable networks. The men's freestyle and Greco-Roman competition will be broadcast on ESPN2, while the women's freestyle championships will air on the Oxygen Network. Mark your calendars now and make sure to tune in for the excitement. MEN'S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, ESPN2, SUNDAY, JUNE 23, 7-8 P.M. EASTERN Coverage of the gold-medal action from the men's freestyle and Greco-Roman finals will be broadcast on ESPN2 on Sunday, June 23 from 7-8 p.m. Eastern time. Selected matches from the championship round will be covered in both styles during this 60-minute show. Presenting the action will be the broadcast team of veteran play-by-play announcer Larry Nugent, working with color analyst Kendall Cross, a 1996 Olympic gold medalist. The competition will feature many World and Olympic competitors, battling for coveted National Championship titles. WOMEN'S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, OXYGEN NETWORK, SUNDAY, JUNE 2, 5-6 P.M. EASTERN For the first time, the U.S. Women's National Wrestling Championships, will be broadcast nationally as a separate show than the men's national championships. The Oxygen Network, the fastest growing television network for women, will broadcast the competition on Sunday, June 2,from 5-6 p.m. Eastern time. The Oxygen Network will combine match coverage from the gold-medal finals in Las Vegas with feature stories on the top American competitors during the 60-minute show. The Oxygen Network has distinguished itself with creative and entertaining coverage of major women's sports events in recent years. Calling the gold-medal matches will be the broadcast team of veteran play-by-play announcer Larry Nugent, working with color analyst Shannon Yancey, a four-time World silver medalist and top women's wrestling coach. Women's wrestling is the newest sport added to the official program of the Olympic Games, and will make its debut at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
