The 2002 Amateur Wrestling Alliance Convention is scheduled for June 5-8 at the Holiday Inn-Stillwater in Stillwater, Okla. This year's convention will be very special, as it being held alongside the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Honors Weekend, one of the sport's annual highlights. The Amateur Wrestling Alliance includes three partner organizations: the National Wrestling Coaches Association, USA Wrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum. The convention offers coaches and other wrestling leaders an opportunity to improve professionally, while networking with their peers. Each year at the convention, featured presentations are technique clinics, workshops, coaching education programs and numerous social activities. Among the special activities at this year's event are: * a special leadership development presentation delivered by the United States Marine Corps (USMC). * Golf outing/country jamboree in conjunction with the Hall of Fame. * Opportunity to support several inductees as they are inducted into Hall of Fame. * Special presentations for both scholastic and collegiate coaches. The featured clinicians include J Robinson, head coach of two-time NCAA team champion Minnesota, Jack Spates, head coach of national power Oklahoma, and Kevin Jackson, Olympic champion and USA Wrestling National Freestyle Coach. All three clinicians are considered among the best in the business. Robinson has led the Minnesota Gopher to two straight NCAA team titles. He was the 2001 NWCA Coach of the Year. During his 16 years at Minnesota, he has built the program into one of the nation's elite, developing numerous national champions, All-Americans and Team USA members. In nine seasons with Oklahoma, Spates returned the storied Sooner program to national prominence. His team placed third at the 2002 NCAA Championships. Prior to coaching at Oklahoma, Spates was the head coach of Cornell Univ. and the U.S. Military Academy. Jackson was a 1992 Olympic champion, and claimed World Championship gold medals in 1991 and 1995. As National Freestyle Coach, Jackson is responsible for training America's best Olympic freestyle athletes. A trade fair will also be hosted, featuring the latest products and services within the wrestling community. Sponsors for the convention include ASICS, Resilite Sports Products, Inc. and Cliff Keen Athletics. These companies have supported the convention in the past, and are leaders within the sport of wrestling. Anyone who has not attended the Honors Weekend at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame will be in for a special treat. The Wrestling Hall of Fame is one of the best sports museums in the nation. Wrestling enthusiasts can spend hours enjoying the exhibits and displays. The registration cost for the convention is $150 in advance, and $210 at the door. Payment in full or a $50 deposit must accompany your registration form, Other activities available for participants is the Hall of Fame Golf Tournament ($45), Ladies Style Luncheon ($15) and 26th Annual Hall of Fame Honors Banquet ($25).
