Oregon dominates the competition at the 2002 Northwest Region Junior Greco-Roman

Oregon crowned six champions in the Greco-Roman competition at Battle Ground,  Washington during the Greco-Roman competition of the Northwest Junior  Championships.  Oregon was followed by both California and Washington, which had  five Greco-Roman champions each in the competition.  Over 135 competitors  competed in the competition which concluded the weekend long opening event of  the 2002 Junior Regional Championship series.      The top three finishers in the Greco-Roman competition earned positions on their  respective state teams that will compete in this summer's ASICS Junior National  Championships in Fargo, North Dakota.  The Greco-Roman competition also saw the  crowning of ten double championships that had won freestyle titles the day  earlier.  They were, 112lbs Mike Rodriguez, WA; 119lbs Eric Stevenson, OR;  125lbs Taylor Graham, OR; 130lbs James Holt, CA; 140lbs Ricky Turk, CA; 145lbs  Scott Loescher, OR; 152lbs Pat Pitch, WA; 160lbs Stephen Gee, CA; 171 Luke  Hogle, OR; 189lbs Eric Smith, ID.    Two special individual awards were also given at the conclusion of the  Greco-Roman competition.  Bridger Sacher of Oregon was awarded the "Most Fall in  Least Amount of Time" plaque with four falls in 3:50, and Pat Pitsch, the 152lb  Champion, from Washington was recognized as the "Outstanding Wrestler" for the  Greco-Roman event.    Director of State Services, Mark Scott said, "The Northwest Region Junior  Championships were an exciting beginning to the USAW Junior Regional  Championship Series.  The competition was excellent and the organizers of the  event are to be commended on an outstanding production.  Participation rose by  over fifty competitors as the event was held a second year in Battle Ground,  Washington.  Scott stated, "The facilities at Battle Ground High School are  excellent and the corps of volunteers did an outstanding job of providing a  terrific event support for the athletes that participated."  The event will look  to return again to Battle Ground, Washington in 2003 with increased  participation from other surrounding states and Canada.
