Teams of U.S. all-star wrestlers will battle the national teams of Russia, Korea and Germany at three different sites across the nation in early April. The international teams will be competing in these popular dual meets after participating in the Northern Quest 2002 World Cup of Wrestling in Spokane, Wash., April 6-7. USA vs. KOREA WORLD DUAL MEET, SIOUX CITY, IOWA, APRIL 9 For the second straight year, the USA will take on an international power in Sioux City, Iowa in a World Dual meet. This year, the Korean national team will take on the U.S. all-stars on April 9. Korea, a top power in Asia, will be led by Olympic and World silver medalist Moon Eui-Jae at 84 kg/185 lbs., along with a young lineup of athletes expected to contend for medals at the 2004 Olympic Games. The U.S. lineup has yet to be completed, but will feature top U.S. freestyle stars who live and train in the region. USA vs. GERMANY WORLD DUAL MEET, GREELEY, COLO., APRIL 9 The United States will battle Germany in a Freestyle World Dual meet at the Butler-Hancock Arena on the campus of the Univ. of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo., April 9. Germany, an European power, will be led by 1994 World Champion Alexander Leipold at 74 kg/163 lbs. and 1995 World silver medalist Sven Thiele at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. The U.S. team has yet to be confirmed, but will include many talented athletes who live and train in the Colorado area, including some U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athletes. A free clinic for all ticket holders by one of the USA Wrestling Freestyle National Coaches will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed at 7:30 p.m. by the wrestling action. USA vs. RUSSIA WORLD DUAL MEET, NEW YORK, N.Y., APRIL 10 The two top freestyle wrestling nations in the world, the United States and Russia, will battle in a World dual meet at the world famous New York Athletic Club, in downtown Manhattan in New York City on April 10. Action is expected to begin at 7:00 p.m. The Russian team will include a number of veteran stars, including 2001 World Champion Guegorgui Gogchelidze at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. and past World medalist Ramil Islamov at 60 kg/132 lbs. The U.S. lineup has yet to be completed, but will feature a number of freestyle stars who compete for the New York Athletic Club, one of the strongest wrestling clubs in the world.
