Oregon leads Pac-10 Championships through semifinal round

CORVALLIS, OR - After a recalculation of team totals Sunday morning, Oregon leads the Pac-10 Championships by a 5-point margain over Boise State University through the semi and consolation wrestle back rounds.    The Ducks lead after the first session scoring, but and now hold a 5-point lead with 90 team points over contender Boise State. Boise State had a spectacular wrestle back round scoring 85 points on the day. Arizona State found a third place spot with 80.5, while host Oregon State earned 75.5 points, and Cal-Poly amassed 65 points to round out the top five team scores.     Arizona State, a favorite for the team title, found disappointment in a couple of quarterfinal upsets. At 133 Pounds, first seeded David Douglas dropped a 5-4 decision to Jesse Brock of Boise State. Another top ASU seed, Rocky Smart gave up an overtime pin in the quarters to Jeremiah Jarvis of UC-Davis.    Arizona State was not the only team dealing with upsets. Cal -Poly saw quarterfinal upsets at 141 and 165, with second seeded Cedric Haymon dropping an overtime decision to unseeded Brian Watson of Oregon, while fourth seeded Brody Barrios was handed an 11-3 major decision by unseeded Sundevil Nick Frost. Other noteable upsets of seeded wrestlers in the first round include third seeded Nathan Navarro of Oregon State at 133 pounds who lost 8-6 to unseeded Efren Ceballos of Cal-Bakersfield; fourth seeded Tony D'Amico of Boise State who dropped an 8-2 decision to Rowdy Lundegreen of Cal-Fullerton at 184 pounds; and fourth seeded Robbie Odell of Cal-Bakersfield who lost 8-3 to unseeded Jake Leair of Oregon at 197 pounds.    The semifinal round held Saturday night was abound with upsets and controversy. At 125 pounds, top seeded Ben VomBaur of Boise State handed a 4-0 decision to #4 seed Matt Sanchez of Cal-Bakersfield, while third seeded Shaun Williams of Oregon handled second seeded Mike Simpson of ASU, winning a 15-4 major decision.  VomBaur and Williams will meet in the finals tomorrow.    The 133-pound finals may feature two unseeded wresters. Unseeded Jesse Brock of Boise State, who defeated first seeded David Douglas of Arizona State in the quarters, followed by a semifinal overtime win over fourth seeded Urijah Faber of UC-Davis. Brock is set to face unseeded opponent Efren Ceballos of Cal-Bakersfield, who won a controversial 7-6 decision over second seeded Jason Harless of Oregon. That could change however, as the match has been protested. The protest committee is set to meet later tonight to make a decision.    In semifinals action at 141-pounds, top seeded Sundevil Eric Larkin handed a 7-2 decision to fourth seeded Gabe Virgil of Boise State. He is set to face unseeded Brian Watson of Oregon, who made his way to the finals with a quarterfinal overtime upset over second seeded Cedric Haymon of Cal-Poly and a semifinal decision over unseeded Brad Metzler of Stanford.    The 149- pound final will be a battle of number 1 and 2. Top seeded Collin Robertson of Boise State earned his way to the finals with a 5-1 decision over fourth seeded Casey Hunt of Oregon. Robertson will face second seeded Matt Gentry of Stanford, who hit a takedown with less than 10 seconds left to win a 3-1 semifinal decision over third seeded Thomas Juarez of Cal-Bakersfield.     The 157-pound final will feature unseeded Jeremiah Jarvis of UC-Davis, who pinned his way to the finals. Jarvis handed a quarterfinal pin to top seeded Rocky Smart of Arizona State followed by a semifinal pin of Mitch Morgan of Boise State. Jarvis will face second seeded Tony Overstake of Oregon. Overstake earned two major decisions on his way to the finals beating Brian Cobb of Cal-Bakersfield 13-5 in the quarters and third seeded Levi Weikel-Magden of Stanford 13-4 in the semis.    The 165-pound final will pit #1 seed Eugene Harris of Oregon with #2 seed Burt Pierson of Cal-Davis. Harris earned a 3-2 semifinal decision over Nick Frost of Arizona State, while Pierson handed third seeded Chris Carlino of Cal-Fullerton a 5-3 loss.    Top seeded Nathan Coy of Oregon State won his 174-pound semifinal match by injury default after fourth seeded Quinn Collett of Portland State dislocated his elbow during the match. Coy will face second seeded Steve Strange of Cal-Poly, who earned a 6-1 semifinal decision over third seeded Pat Owens of Boise State    Another battle of the top seeds will occur at 184 pounds, where #1 seed Jeremy Wilson of Portland State is set to take on second seeded Isaac Weber of Oregon State. Wilson earned his finals berth with a 5-2 semifinal decision over Rowdy Lundegreen of Cal-Fullerton, while his finals opponent, Weber earned a 3-1 semifinal decision over third seeded Charles Sandlin of Cal-Poly    Top seeded Sundevil Erik Gladish is set to face third seeded David Schenk of Cal-Poly in tomorrow night's finals. Gladish defeated unseeded Jake Leair of Oregon 10-0 in the semis, while his opponent handed a semifinal round fall to second seeded Jason Lovell of Oregon State.    The final matchup of the night will also be a battle of the top two seeded heavyweights. In semifinal action, top seeded Kellan Fluckiger of Arizona State handed fourth seeded Boe Rushton of Boise State a 10-0 major decision. He will face second seeded Jason Cooley of Oregon State who won a tight 3-2 semifinal decision over third seeded Eric Webb of Oregon.    The consolation and medal matches will be held at 11 a.m. PT Sunday morning, with the finals scheduled for 6:15 p.m. PT Sunday night.
