TheMat.com, the official web page of the Amateur Wrestling Alliance, has released the North American Women's College Wrestling Rankings for teams and individuals for February 2002.    In the tightest vote in the history of the poll, two teams are tied at No. 1 and two other teams are closely behind and tied at No. 3.    Missouri Valley College, an NAIA school from Marshall, Mo., and Brock Univ. of Ontario, Canada, a team that competes in the CIS, are tied at No. 1 with 94 points.     Missouri Valley, which held the No. 1 ranking last month, recieved two first place votes. Brock, which recently won the OUA Championships, jumped from No. 4 last month and received one first place vote.    Tied at No. 3 are defending CIS National champions the Univ. of Calgary, along with Simon Fraser, an NAIA school in British Columbia, Canada, only three points behind the leaders with 91 points. Both Calgary and Simon Fraser each received a first-place vote. Calgary is fresh off the team title at the Canada West Championships.    This logjam is expected to be broken this coming weekend. Missouri Valley and Simon Fraser will face each other at the NAIA Coaches Association North American Championships in Great Falls, Mont. Brock and Calgary will do battle at the CIS National Championships in Thunder Bay, Ontario.    The Univ. of Minnesota-Morris, a NCAA Div. II school in the United States, held its  fifth ranking with 79 points. Rounding out the Top 10 teams are the Univ. of Alberta, Pacific Univ., Lakehead Univ., Cumberland College and Lock Haven Univ.    The team ranking poll is elected by a panel of women's college coaches, three from Canada and two from the United States. Eligible for ranking are college varsity and club women's wrestling programs.    Women's wrestling is a growing sport in Canada and the United States on the college level. The International Olympic Committee has named women's freestyle wrestling as the newest sport added to the Summer Olympic Games program. The United States and Canada are among the most successful women's wrestling nations in the world.    The individual rankings are selected by TheMat.com, with assistance from the panel of coaches. Athletes who are considered for ranking are eligible full-time college students, and are members of their college women's varsity or club program, or a member of their college men's wrestling team.    Six of the eight top-ranked wrestlers from the January rankings are still in No. 1 positions. They are Carol Huyhn of Simon Fraser at 48 kg (105.5 lbs.), Lydsay Belisle of the Univ. of British Columbia at 51 kg (112.25 lbs.), Tonya Verbeek of Brock at 55 kg (121 lbs.), Sara McMann of Lock Haven at 63 kg (138.5 lbs.), Toccara Montgomery of Cumberland College at 67 kg (147.5 lbs.) and Pamela Wilson of McMaster at 77 kg (169.5 lbs.). Last month, Wilson was top-ranked at 72 kg (158.5 lbs.).    New top-ranked wrestlers include Tonya Evinger of Missouri Valley at 59 kg (129.8 lbs.) and Martine DeGrunier of Concordia at 72 kg (158.5 lbs.).    TheMat.com North American College Women's Wrestling rankings will be published monthly on the following dates: Nov. 28; Dec. 26; Jan. 25; Feb. 25; March 25; April 25; May 25    TheMat.com has created a composite schedule for women's college wrestling, which includes events from the U.S. and Canadian programs. Results from these events will be posted on a regular basis throughout the season.
