7:20 - Brandon Slay will battle for the gold medal, after a solid 3-1 victory over Adem Bereket of Turkey in the semifinals. There was no scoring in the first period, and in the clinch, Slay broke his hands executing a throw attempt and was hit with a caution and one point penalty. He tied the match quickly on a reversal at 3:48 at 1-1. At the 4:00 mark, Slay scored a two-point gutwrench for a 3-1 lead, which he held until the final whistle. Apparently, the Turks have protested this match.    7:00 - Sorry, Burton's score was 4-0. The bouts were going on at the same time and an error was made on this end.    6:30 - The U.S. just won two matches, side by side. Sammie Henson is in the gold-medal match, after stopping German Kontoev of Belarus, 3-0, in the semifinals. Henson scored all three points in the first period, turning Kontoev with a two-point gut wrench, then holding him for five seconds for point number three. There was no scoring in the second period. The opponent will be Namik Abdullayev of Azerbaijan, who Sammie beat in the 1998 World finals in Tehran, Iran.    Charles Burton opened his Olympic experience with a solid shutout victory over Alione Diouf of Senegal. Burton scored his first point in the opening period, and opened things up in the second period, winning 5-0.     5:40 - Terry Brands just dusted his first opponent, Abil Ibragimov of Kazakhstan, pinning him in 2:51. Brands scored two takedowns and received a point on a fleeing the mat call for a 3-0 lead. Then he turned Ibragimov with a gut wrench and pressed him to the mat for a fall. He looked dominant and confident    4:45 - Evening session getting ready to start. The U.S. has four matches this session. The two big ones are the semifinals, with Henson and Slay trying to make the gold medal match. We will also see the first Olympic matches for Brands and Burton. On Mat A, Burton is the eighth match against Alioune Diouf of Senegal. On Mat B, Brands is the fourth match against Abil Ibragimov of Kazakhstan, then Henson is the ninth match against German Kontoev of Belarus and Slay is the 13th match against Adem Bereket of Turkey. The U.S. ended with a perfect 4-0 record this session.    McCoy scored a 3-0 overtime win over past World medalist Merabi Valiyev of Ukraine. McCoy got his first point on a fleeing the mat call at 2:12. He added a single leg takedown in the second period at 5:58. He closed the bout down at 8:33 with another takedown.     Slay had a difficult quarterfinal match, scoring a 2-2 overtime referee's decision over Gennadiy Laliyev of Kazakhstan. The difference was fewer passivities against Slay. Slay scored the first takedown at 2:26 for a 1-0 lead, then was reversed by Laliyev for a 1-1 tie. In the second period, Slay hit a double leg takedown for a 2-1 win at 3:23. Regulation ended at 2-1, but Laliyev tied it up at 2-2 at 6:33 with a takedown. No more points were scored.     11:08 - Sammie Henson has made the semifinals, with a spectacular 8-4 comeback win over 1999 World bronze medalist Oleksandr Zakharuk of Ukraine. Zakharuk scored the first takedown at 42 seconds, then launched Henson with a three-point arm throw at 1:12 for a 4-0 lead. Henson scored a single leg takedown at 2:37 to close it to 4-1 at the break. Henson opened the offense, scoring a single leg at 3:25, then scoring a tilt and hold for three more points for a 5-4 lead. Henson added a spin behind takedown for a 6-4 lead and another tilt for two points at 5:30 for the deciding 8-4 win. Henson said he was never worried, and knew he could wear down the opponent.    10:34 - Lincoln McIlravy won his first match, scoring a mysterious injury default over Ibo Oziti of Nigeria. The first period was scoreless, and Oziti won the clinch position for a caution and one point lead. McIlravy quickly tied the bout with a spin behind takedown, then took a 2-1 lead at 4:25 on a low single takedown. Oziti took an injury time out, rotated his left shoulder a bit, then took an injury default loss. When asked after the match what his opponent's injury was, McIlravy said "his lungs."    9:30 a.m. - The session begins. The U.S. has a light load this morning. Slay and Henson have their quarterfinals. McCOy and McIlravy have their first matches. Brands and Burton have byes and will wrestle twice tonight. On Mat A, McCoy faces Valiyev of Ukraine in the 11th bout. On Mat B, McIlravy is the fourth match against Oziti of Nigeria, then Henson is the ninth match against Zaharuk of Ukraine and Slay is the 13th match against Laliyev of Kazakhstan.
