A Campaign for Wrestling, "Wrestling for the Next Millennium," a major capital fundraising effort for the sport, has reached a successful conclusion. USA Wrestling, the National Wrestling Coaches Association and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum developed the campaign in 1998, as a combined effort to solicit substantial financial resources for each of the organizations and their programs to benefit the sport. The Capital Campaign Committee, as well as the leadership of the three organizations, are pleased to announce that the campaign was successfully completed on January 15, 2002. A total of $7.5 million in pledges have been made to the campaign. Funds from commitments made to the joint campaign will be received throughout the next decade. A total of 80 donors participated in the joint capital campaign, with a majority of the funds pledged coming from 11 major individual donors. "On behalf of the partner organizations, the campaign leadership is proud to wrap up the most successful fundraising effort in wrestling history," said Jeff Levitetz, Co-Chairperson of the Capital Campaign. "We would like to recognize and thank each and every donor who has supported this historic joint campaign. By working together, these supporters of wrestling have helped secure the future of the sport." A portion of the funds collected to date have been dispersed to each of the organizations. The organizations, based upon their unique needs, programs and responsibilities, will utilize the funding in respect to the wishes of the campaign donors. "We are very grateful to the many individuals that gave so unselfishly to this effort," said Rich Bender, Executive Director of USA Wrestling. "The resources that were generated will play an important role in wrestling's future by enabling each of the organizations to carry out their missions." "The NWCA Board of Directors would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the entire wrestling community for their dedicated and loyal support of the Wrestling for the Next Millennium Campaign," said Mike Moyer, Executive Director of the National Wrestling Coaches Association. "The incredible response of our 'wrestling family' to the collaborative fund raising efforts of USA Wrestling, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and the NWCA has positioned amateur wrestling to thrive in this new millennium." "This campaign is the first time that wrestling has put all of its resources together to develop a fundraising project," said Myron Roderick, President of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum. "One of the reasons that it was successful is because it helped all three organizations. The campaign developed many new leaders into the organizations who will continue to be strong supporters of wrestling in the future. On behalf of the Hall of Fame and its Board of Governors, we want to thank everybody who got involved with the campaign."
