The ancient Olympic Games would award champions with marginal gifts such as a wreath of olive leaves. The Liberty Nationals wrestling tournament takes a different tact, offering its' champions a much weightier award-10 pounds weightier to be precise. Champions at this major USA Wrestling event will receive a 10-pound trophy of the classic Greek wrestlers intertwined in battle. (To see the trophy visit the information section at www.libertynationalswrestling.com) Bill Gossett, tournament organizer for this event, notes, "kids work hard and we feel they need to receive great symbols of achievement. This trophy does exaclty that." Gossett shows tremendous enthusiasm for the tournament that is located only twenty minutes from downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Liberty Missouri will play host to this major youth wrestling tournament February 2nd at the Mabee Athletic Center at William Jewel College. The Liberty Nationals wrestling event is located in the middle of the United Sates, surrounded by states with strong youth wrestling programs. States like Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Nebraska are all within easy driving distance of the grappling showcase. Gossett proudly points to the fact that he has already received registrations from states like Illinois, Georgia, North Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, Minnesota, Michigan, Wyoming, and Ohio from wrestlers that must make a longer trek. The Liberty Nationals organizers are working hard to develop this event into a major youth wrestling tournament. Entries are limited to the first 1000 participants. Gossett has stated, "interest in this event is growing all the time; this is a tournament that will really benefit youth wrestlers looking to challenge themselves against quality competition." With five age divisions to be contested, wrestlers at all age and skill levels will have a great opportunity to be a part of an exciting and well-run tournament. The Liberty Nationals meet is a folkstyle competition that requires a USA Wrestling membership card to participate. The entry deadline is January 25th, participants are encouraged to get their registration in early for this fantastic event. The Liberty Nationals Wrestling Tournament is a growing competition that features a strong commitment to the sport of wrestling by rewarding youth wrestlers for their dedication to the sport of wrestling. Coaches and wrestlers are encouraged to head to Liberty Missouri for this great national event.
