7:25 - The medals are given out by Juan Antonio Samaranch, president of the IOC, and Milar Ercegan, president of FILA. They just introduced the new Olympic champion, Rulon Gardner. Then Karelin. Then the bronze medalist Dimitri Debelka. They are now playing the national anthem. I'm so fired up I can hardly type.      7:20 - A full arena of fans in Australia just witnessed one of the greatest wins in sports history. Rulon wrestled the perfect match, said coach Chandler. They are now bringing out the 130 kg athletes for medals. This is something that I dont believe many people ever would have imagined. Alexander Kareline is defeated, and its done by an American - Rulon Gardner. How's that for history. Big day for wrestling in USA    7:12 - Both athletes hit once in OT. No points scored. Gardner wins!!! Biggest upset in wrestling history    7:10 - Rulon won the clinch. Kareline broke his hand grip first. The referee's had to check the video to confirm it. Gardner up 1-0 at 3:30. 2nd period ends 1-0 Gardner. To overtime.    6:58: 1st period over. No points. Karelin did not get his reverse lift. Going to clinch    6:50 - Dmitri Debelka of Belarus just won the bronze at 130 kg, in a paint-drying slow 1-0 overtime referee's decision.Here comes the match!!    6:20 - Juan Antonio Samaranch, the president of the IOC, just showed up at the wrestling venue with Henry Kissinger to see the heavyweight match. Hamza Yerlikaya of Turkey won the gold at 85 kg, winning a 3-3 referee's decision over Sandor Bardosi of Hungary. It was Yerlikaya's second Olympic gold.    6:09 - Muhkran Vakhtangadze of Georgia is a bronze medalist at 85 kg, beating Fritz Aanes of Norway, 4-0 in the finals. Two first period points, then a two point turn in the second period for the win.    5:50 - Filiberto Azcuy of Cuba quickly scored an 11-0 technical fall over Katsuhiko Nagata of Japan in the gold medal finals at 69 kg. He hit three big throws for the tech. at 1:44. It was Azcuy's second straight Olympic gold.    5:39: Alexei Gluchkov of Russia won the bronze at 69 kg, beating Valeri Nikitin of Estonia, 5-0. Gluchkov had a nice throw in the second period.    5:18 - Armen Nazarian of Bulgaria just pinned Kim In Sub of Korea in the gold medal match at 58 kg. Kim scored the first three points, but Nazarian threw him for five, then threw him directly to his back, adjusted and pinned him at 2:34. It was Nazarian's second Olympic title (this is the guy who beat Paulson in 96)    5:17 - Zetian Sheng from China wins the bronze at 58 kg, by a 2-1 overtime ref. decision over Rifat Yildiz of Germany. It was Sheng's third Olympic medal. This place is filling up tonight for Kareline vs. Gardner.    5:15 - Finals have started. Bronze at 54 underway. Busy typing freestyle draw. U.S. draws are challenging. Check the breaking news section for quick update.    12:20 - Gruenwald dropped his fifth place match, losing to Askhani of Iran, 3-2. It was closely contested, but Askhani led at the mid break, 2-1, and scored the deciding third point midway through the final period. The anticipation is already building for Gardner vs. Karelin, USA vs. Russia, superheavyweight showdown. It's a big deal here.    11:50 - Gardner is going for gold against Karelin.  He faced Juri Yevseychyc of Israel in the semifinals.The first period had no scoring, as each received a passivity and nobody executed a turn. The flip for the clinch went to Israel, who locked up first. In about 10 seconds, Gardner lost his lock in the clinch, and was hit with a caution and one point penalty. At the 3:54 mark, Yevseychik scored a takedown in a weird scramble with Gardner. Rulon tossed the Israeli out of bounds for no points; it could have been a three-pointer if so ruled. Yevseychyk stayed down for an injury for awhile after the throw. The Israeli was hit for passivity at 4:40. Rulon kept him up, then powered him out of bounds for a caution and one, closing the score to 2-1. Gardner pushed the man around the mat but didn't score before the period ended. The Israeli was clearly gassed, trying to hold the lead. Gardner scored a takedown at 6:24 in overtime, closing it to 2-2. A cuation against Israel gave Gardner the win at 7:39    11:25 - Kareline has made his fourth Olympic finals. He defeated Dmitry Debelka of Belarus in the semifinals. The first period was scoreless, and Kareline dropped Debelka while trying his reverse lift. From the clinch, Karelin shucked him by for a takedown, then got a quick gut wrench for the 3-0 lead. Game over for Debelka.    10:50 - Nagata from Japan just won the semis at 69 kg, beating Glouchkov of Russia 3-1. This is the same athlete that Heath Sims beat solidly in the pool match yesterday. Because of the draw. Nagata is in the gold medal finals with just a 2-1 record.    10:10 - Alexander Kareline (he's using the e and asking people to call him Kar-el-een now) easily dispatched Saldadze of Ukraine, 4-0. Three quick points then an easy pummel. His opponent in the semis will be Dmitry Debelka of Belarus, a slight upset winner over Cuba's Hector Milian in the other quarterfinals. Debelka won the clinch and that was it for that match.    10:00 - Gruenwald will face Ali Ashkani of Iran in the fifth place match. Gruenwald, while devestated about his loss to Sheng, has promised his best effort in this final match.    9:45 - The display of throwing by Sheng against Gruenwald was impressive. This athlete seems to really pump it up at the Olympics, competing much better than the other three years. That is not uncommon here. The intensity and preparation really ratches up at the Olympics. Gruenwald will compete for fifth or sixth later this session.    9:40 - The U.S. has only two wrestlers in today, Gruenwald and Gardner.     Gruenwald opened against Olympic bronze medalist Sheng of China. Gruenwald led 1-0 at break, but Sheng opened it up with a 2 point turn, a six-point throw and and one point lift. A 2-point turn ended it at 11-1.
