USA Wrestling, the national governing body for amateur wrestling, has initiated a search for two staff coaching positions in Greco-Roman wrestling. USA Wrestling is seeking applicants for the position of University Greco-Roman Resident Coach, as well as for the newly-created position of Assistant Greco-Roman Resident Coach. The University Greco-Roman Resident Coach will direct the U.S. Olympic Education Center University Greco-Roman resident program at the University of Northern Michigan in Marquette, Mich. This coach will be responsible for the daily operation, recruiting and long-range planning for the program. 1996 Olympian Gordy Morgan, who has coached the USOEC Greco-Roman team since the program was created, has announced that he has accepted a new position as the State Freestyle Coach for Minnesota USA Wrestling. The USOEC program has helped develop nationally ranked Greco-Roman wrestlers on the age-group and Senior levels. The USOEC squad claimed the team title in Greco-Roman at the 2001 University National Championships. The program was prominently displayed in a recent feature article in Sports Illustrated. This coach will also have a number of other duties within USA Wrestling's National Teams Department, assisting with the development and coaching of Greco-Roman wrestling in the United States. The Assistant Greco-Roman Resident Coach will be based in Colorado Springs, Colo., handling numerous coaching tasks as part of USA Wrestling's professional National Coaching staff. This new position has been developed through USOC performance funding and other outside sources directed specifically at enhancing elite-level performance. Among the job duties are scheduling and conducting workouts for the Resident program and National Training camps and the recruitment of athletes for the resident program. In addition, this individual will serve as an assistant to the National Greco-Roman Coach, assisting with the training and preparation of the National Team Athletes as well as assisting in the promotion and development of Greco-Roman wrestling at all age group levels. Candidates for both positions with international competitive experience and/or elite coaching experience will receive preferential consideration.
