2001 NYAC Christmas Tournament ends in New York

The second day of the NYAC Holiday tournament was a great showcase for the sport a wrestling.  The athletes in all styles provided many exciting moments to keep the fans entertained.      At 69 kg Freestyle every match wrestled today featured an NCAA Champion and all but one featured two.    Bobby Lashley scored a crowd-pleasing 5-point throw touch fall in the match to determine second place in his first freestyle tournament ever.    Glen Garrison of the Army fought off a late charge by Kevin Bracken, scoring the winning take down after Bracken threw him to tie the match in the final minute of overtime, to win the title at 63 kg.    Freestyle World team member Chris Bono showed that he is not far away from his world championship form while making his way through a very tough field of competitors to win the title at 69 kg.    Tanya VerBeek-Canada won the title at two weight classes, 56 and 62 kg without having a single point scored on her.    TC Dantzler treated the fans to some great technique with an outstanding reverse lift throw in the finals of 76kg on his way to the title.    Trailing by 3 points, Ross Thatcher scored 5 points in the last 30 seconds of the 1st period to take the lead and secure the title at 97kg.    Donny Pritzlaff 76 kg freestyle and Glen Garrison, 63 kg Greco-Roman were named Outstanding Wrestlers.
