Coaching Youth Wrestling is part of the improved generation of the American Sport Education Program's (ASEP) Coaching Youth Sports series. This widely respected and highly popular series is a thorough collection of youth sport-specific guides that are grounded in positive coaching principles. Endorsed by USA Wrestling, the National Governing Body of amateur wrestling, Coaching Youth Wrestling provides beginning wrestling coaches with both an explanation of their role and concrete instructions on fulfilling that role. Coaches will find chapters on communicating with athletes and their parents, teaching and developing wrestling skills, planning and conducting practices, and coaching during matches. This book includes a special chapter on the games approach to coaching wrestling, which utilizes a series of modified games or matches to teach wrestling skills and tactics. The games approach is an interactive approach to coaching that is more enjoyable for kids and more effective than repetitive drills. Twenty games with detailed explanations and diagrams help coaches teach the skills and tactics of wrestling and how athletes can apply them in a match situation. Featuring information specific programs for both boys and girls wrestling including equipment, season plans, matches and tactics, Coaching Youth Wrestling is a great resource for novice and volunteer coaches. Mitch Hull, Director of National Teams for USA Wrestling, states, "USA Wrestling recommends Coaching Youth Wrestling for any volunteer or beginning coach. The book covers everything coaches want to know about creating a positive experience for their youth wrestlers." Coaching Youth Wrestling is an excellent introduction to youth coaching and teaching young wrestlers valuable skills. It provides all the information you need to coach effectively and help 6-to-15 year-old athletes, both boys and girls, learn and enjoy the sport.
