Only one wrestler in the second group competed today for the United States at the 2001 Greco-Roman World Championships in Patras, Greece. 2000 Olympic silver medalist Matt Lindland (Oregon City, Ore./Sunkist Kids) won his first match of the world championships at 85 kg with a 7-0 decision over Bojan Mijatov of Yugoslavia. Lindland was called for passivity one minute into the match when he escaped for one point then received two points for back exposure. He then scored with a four point throw in the second period to put the match away. The third wrestler in his pool is Cotcha Cichiashvili of Israel. The other three wrestlers in the second group had a bye this evening. 2000 Olympic champion Rulon Gardner (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 130 kg, 2000 Olympian Jim Gruenwald (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 58 kg and Marcel Cooper (Triangle, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 69 kg. 2001 Greco-Roman World Championships Patras, Greece, Dimitrios Tofalos Arena 58 kg Jim Gruenwald, Colorado Springs, Colo.
