Borrelli of Central Michigan named Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week

Jason Borelli, Central Michigan (125lb., Fr., Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) is the first Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week. He won the Michigan Open title at 125 and was named the meet's "Most Outstanding Wrestler." To win the tournament he had to defeat #5-ranked and returning All-American Chris Williams of Michgan State, 5-2, in the semi-finals, and in the finals he defeated highly touted freshman Nick Simmons of Michigan State, 9-6. He finished the tournament with a 5-0 record with two falls. The tournament was his first-ever college tournament after he redshirted last season.    Other Nominees  Dave Guarino, Buffalo (165lb., Sr., Derby, N.Y.) finished first in his weight class at both the Oakland Gold Classic and at the Bloomsburg Invitational. He also has posted a 2-0 record in MAC matches. During dual meets, Guarino had three takedowns, three escapes, two reversals, and two riding time points. For his career, he has posted on overall mark of 47-37. He is 8-0 in the 2001-02 season.    Nick Nemeth, Kent State (165lb., Jr., Cleveland, Ohio) has started his junior year placing in two open tournaments. He won the Ashland Open at 165 pounds, going 5-0. He had two falls and three major decisions in winning his weight class. Nemeth went 3-1 and finished second at the Michigan State Open at 165. He had a fall in his opening match and lost 10-9 in the finals.    Scott Owen, Northern Illinois (157lb., Sr., Carlsbad, N.M.) finished first in both of his league matches.    Ryan Smith, Ohio (157lb., Jr., Dayton, Ohio) has on over-all record of 9-2 with two pins.    Zac Pyles, Eastern Michigan (133lb., Jr., Davison, Mich.) has a record of 8-2 overall and a MAC record record of 2-0.
