White wins gold medal at Clansman International in Canada

Kirk White (Colorado Springs, Colo./Bronco WC) claimed the gold medal at 76 kg/167.5 pounds at the Clansman International Open, held at Burnaby Mountain, B.C., Canada, Nov. 11. White defeated Sean Harrington (Dracut, Mass./New York AC) in the gold-medal finals, 5-2 in overtime at 7:40. White won four matches on the way to the gold, and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. White was a NCAA champion for Boise State, and is currently an U.S. Olympic Training Center freestyle resident athlete. The United States swept the medals at 76 kg, as Team USA member Byron Tucker (Norman, Okla./Sunkist Kids) placed third. Harrington upset Tucker in the third round, 3-2, earning a spot in the finals against White. Winning a bronze medal at 130 kg/286 lbs. was Jon Small, a student at Pacific University in Oregon. His teammate Troy Hall placed fourth at 69 kg/152 lbs.
