Ackerman to be Awarded the Hodge Trophy in Ceremonies this Saturday, Oct. 27

As part of Simpson's homecoming ceremonies Saturday afternoon, 2001 174-pound National Champion Nick Ackerman will be awarded with the Hodge Trophy. The Hodge Trophy, which was shared by Ackerman and Iowa State's Cael Sanderson is co-sponsored by the International Wrestling Institute and Museum and W.I.N. Magazine. The award, considered the Heisman Trophy of wrestling, is given each year to the most outstanding collegiate wrestler. There will be two ceremonies for Ackerman. The first will occur during the Simpson Hall of Fame Luncheon which will be begin at 1:30 p.m. in Simpson's Great Hall and the second will occur during halftime of the football game against Dubuque which is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Bill Buxton Stadium. Simpson has ordered a replica of the Hodge Trophy and it will be placed on display in the Simpson Hall of Champions which is located on the main level of Cowles Fieldhouse. Ackerman joins former Simpson greats Kip Janvrin, Ricky Gales, and Kelly Schade as the fourth Storm athlete to be honored in Simpson's Hall of Champions.
