2000 Olympic Champion Brandon Slay to Speak at Central College in Pella, Iowa

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE    Oct. 17, 2001    Contact: Larry Happel    (641) 628-5278    happell@central.edu    Olympic medalist Slay speaks at Central       PELLA-U.S. Olympic gold medalist wrestler Brandon Slay will speak at Central  College Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. in P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.   Slay's appearance is being sponsored by Fellowship of Christian Athletes  chapters at Central and at Pella High School, and by the Central wrestling  team. Slay will speak about his Olympic experiences and his Christian  faith. The event is free and open to the public.       Slay won the 167.5-pound wrestling title at the 2000 Olympics in Australia.  The Amarillo, Tex. native was a two-time all-American and four-time NCAA  tournament qualifier at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating from  Penn's Wharton School with a degree in economics in 1998.          After originally planning a career in business, Slay returned to Amarillo  after the Olympics and co-founded Greater Gold, an organization created to  teach youth about a "new way to win" through the Christian faith. Slay uses  wrestling and athletic clinics, public speaking engagements and the Greater  Gold web site (www.greatergold.com) as teaching opportunities.       "I feel so humbled and honored to have to opportunity to speak to our  nation's future," Slay said.
