USA Wrestling is pleased to announce that the organization has set new membership records for athletes and coaches during the recently completed membership year, which ended on August 30, 2001. During the 2000-2001 year, USA Wrestling registered 131,107 athlete members, shattering the record of 127,589 members set in the 1992-93 season. In addition, in the 2000-2001 season, USA Wrestling enrolled 15,888 coach members, surpassing the record of 15,277 coach members during the 1999-2000 membership year. The membership records were possible through the efforts of USA Wrestling's volunteer leaders on the regional, state and local levels, who provided the most comprehensive program of wrestling activities in the nation. "The new membership records are a tribute to the state leaders in each USA Wrestling association who give so much of their time and energy to bring our great sport to the youth and adults of this country," said Mark Scott, Director of State Services. "Each and every USAWrestling state leader is to be commended on an outstanding job of organizing clubs and events and conducting quality programs at every level of the organization." USA Wrestling is pleased to report that 29 state associations increased Competitor membership over a year ago. Most notable were the state associations of Texas (1000+), Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin (300+), Alaska, Colorado, Maryland, (200+) and California, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, New York, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington (100+)
