Colorado Springs, Col. - It is always good to hear our World Teams are working hard. It is even better to hear that they are working hard with USA Wrestling national sponsors. 24-Hour Fitness is one of USA Wrestling's top sponsors and is always looking for ways to work with USA Wrestling members and provide added benefits. On September 4, the Freestyle World Team Camp took a field trip to the local 24-Hour Fitness for their daily workout. National Freestyle Coach, Kevin Jackson thought a change of environment would be a refreshing change during the two-week national camp being held in Colorado Springs, Col. Gabe Beauperthuy, General Manager of the 24-Hour Fitness Sport at Austin Bluffs, was happy to have the Olympic-level athletes at his club. As a former wrestler, Beauperthuy knows what it's like to get lost in the routine of workouts. "24-Hour Fitness is a strong supporter of athletics, and I have a personal connection to wrestling. I believe in the value of sports and I believe in wrestling. It's always nice to have an elite level team working out at the local club. We're happy to have the team here any time." In addition, Beauperthuy pointed out the 24-Hour Fitness Varsity Team Program, which allows high school varsity athletes to workout free of charge during their season. About 20 wrestlers and coaches traveled from the Olympic Training Center to the 24-Hour Fitness center on Academy Boulevard. Many of the wrestlers and coaches played basketball, while some took advantage of the large facility. The club is a "sport" club, which offers more than your average weight room to its members. World Team Member Eric Guerrero used his time to relax in the hot tub and sauna, while World Team Member Bill Zadick used his time to get in a lift on the weight machines. "I wanted to break up the monotony of the long camp," said Jackson. "I was concerned about the guys getting worn down and wanted them to be refreshed in their workout. I knew 24-Hour Fitness has nice facilities and their sauna, steam room and whirlpool are therapeutic after the hard workouts we've been having during this camp. Gabe was good about approving us to workout and invited our team back any time." USA Wrestling is proud to have 24-Hour Fitness as a corporate sponsor and to have our World Team utilizing their facilities. USA Wrestling looks to continue this partnership long into the future. A new program for USA Wrestling charter clubs will allow elite wrestlers with USA Wrestling membership cards to workout for free at 24-Hour Fitness centers in their area. The program is currently being implemented in Omaha, Neb., Jacksonville, Fla., Boise, Idaho, Phoenix, Ariz., and St. Louis, Mo. Clubs in those test cities may contact USA Wrestling at 719-598-8181 or 24-Hour Team Sports at 800-499-1053 for their club kit and more information on how their best athletes can team up with 24-Hour Fitness.
