U.S. Claims two medals at the FILA Junior Women's World Championships

Montgomery wins the silver; Adams the bronze at the 2001 FILA Junior Women's Championships in Martigny, Switzerland, August 19     Two members of the United States FILA Junior Women's team came home with medals from the World Championships in Martigny, Switzerland, August 19.      Toccara Montgomery (Cleveland, Ohio/Sunkist Kids) won the silver medal at 68 kg, losing in the gold-medal match by a close 8-7 decision to Anita Schatzle of Germany. This is the second straight year she has won the silver medal at the FILA Junior World Championships. Montgomery will represent the United States at the senior World Championships in New York City, Sept. 26-29.     Tori Adams (Amarillo, Texas/Missouri Valley) won the bronze medal at 63 kg. She finished with three pins in the tournament, including one over Angelique Vaissie of France in the bronze-medal match.     Erica Dye (Elizabeth, W. Va.) finished fourth at 43 kg. She lost a 7-3 decision in the bronze-medal match to Alexandre Schvedova of Russia.     Clarissa Chun (Kapolsi, Hawaii/Missouri Valley) and Melina Hutchison  (Soldotna, Alaska/Alaska WC) are the other two competitors from last years team. Chun finished this year in fifth place at 46 kg, moving up three places from last year.     Hutchison finished in eighth place, finishing with a 1-1 record, but was unable to move out of her pool.     Other U.S. finishes include: Jenny Wong (Lock Haven, Pa./Sunkist Kids) finished ninth at 50 kg, Brandy Rosenbrock (Warren, Mich./Shamrocks) finished eighth at 58 kg and Elena Mena (St. Paul, Minn./Minnesota Storm) placed sixth at 75 kg.     The head coach of the U.S. team for the FILA Junior World Championships was Tadaaki Hatta of Oberlin, Ohio.
