Northwestern Wrestling Adds Four to Upcoming Season's Roster

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern wrestling coach Tim Cysewski announced today the signing of four wrestlers for the 2001-02 season.  Jon Ott (Chesterfield, Mo./DeSmet Jesuit), Mike Kimberlin (Bradley, Ill./Bishop McNamara), Thomas Vargas (Highland, Calif./Pacific) and Robert Maldonado (East Chicago, Ind./East Chicago) will be on the mat for NU this season.    "We feel this is a solid group of young men who have the talent, and more importantly the work ethic, to succeed at the college level," said Cysewski.  "All of these student-athletes are positive additions to our wrestling program."    Mike Kimberlin, 157 lbs., Bishop McNamara H.S.    High School:  Three-time state finalist ... Two-time state champion ... Undefeated senior season with a record of 32-0 ... Overall high school record of 142-14 ... Ranked fifth in the nation at 152 lbs. ... High-School All-American in wrestling and football ... Honor Roll member every semester in high school.    Robert Maldonado, 133 lbs., East Chicago H.S.    High School:  Two-time state finalist.. Four-year starter... Team captain.    Jon Ott, 133 lbs., DeSmet Jesuit H.S.    High School:  Three-time Missouri state finalist รจ Two-time Missouri state champion... Undefeated senior season with a record of 42-0... Overall high school record of 148-12 ... Ranked 10th in the nation at 130 lbs.... Named All-American by USA Wrestling Magazine ... Graduated with a 4.4 GPA on a 4.0 scale ... National Honor Society member.    Thomas Vargas, 125 lbs., Pacific H.S.    High School:  2000-01 California state champion... 1999-2000 state runner-up... Two-time junior national All-American... Ranked in the top-10 by Wrestling USA for his weight class... Team captain.
