New York, NY (July 25, 2001) The World Championships of Wrestling announced today that six more nations will send a delegation to the World Championships in New York this September. Among the larger delegations from today's confirmed nations are European powers Hungary, Poland and Sweden. Fourteen athletes will be competing this fall from the Hungarian Delegation. Eight men's Greco-Roman athletes, six men's freestyle, and five women's freestyle will be competing this fall from the Polish Delegation. Eight men's Greco-Roman athletes and four women's freestyle will be competing this fall from the Swedish Delegation. Lithuania will send three men's Greco-Roman and five men's freestyle athletes to New York. Slovakia will have a delegation including five athletes. South Africa has indicated that it will send one athlete to compete. The deadline for each international federation to secure a country delegation in the World Championships has arrived, and a number of expected nations have not yet sent in their information. Final team rosters must be submitted by each international delegation by August 25, 2001. More than 600 athletes from 50 countries are expected to compete in the event. This marks the first time all three wrestling disciplines (Greco-Roman, men's freestyle and women's freestyle) will be held together in the United States, making this event the largest World Championships of Wrestling event ever held. The World Championships of Wrestling will take place at Madison Square Garden, September 26-29, 2001. Tickets for the World Championships are on sale now, with single session ticket prices starting as low as $10. All-session passes are priced as low as $99 for the eight total sessions, with family packages starting as low at $308. To date, 33 nations have identified that they will be participating at the World Championships. These nations are: Austria, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Ukraine and the United States.
