COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The United States Olympic Committee announced today the addition of 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist Jill Savery as Manager of one of its Sports Partnership Teams. Savery was a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. Synchronized Swimming Team in Atlanta and is an eight-time world champion. Her Sports Partnership team at the USOC includes Terry Kent, Eric Parthen and Susan LaCava, who work with the sports of Bobsled, Boxing, Gymnastics, Judo, Karate, Luge, Taekwondo, Wrestling and Track & Field. Savery was elected as a member of the USOC's Athlete Advisory Council this past January and served as an athlete representative on both the Board of Directors of the USOC and U.S. Synchronized Swimming. "We are delighted to add Jill to our team," said Senior Managing Director of Sport Resources Jim Scherr. "She brings a variety of resources and strengths to Sports Partnerships. Her deep understanding of the athletes' perspective and her previous experience as a coach and in event management will be a tremendous asset to this organization." A 1995 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Savery, 29, most recently worked as an account manager at PeopleSoft, Inc. where she supervised the overall business relationship between PeopleSoft and nine strategic partners. Savery is the second former elite athlete to be hired by the USOC in the past two weeks. Jeffrey G. Benz, a longtime Olympic family member and former elite U.S. Figure Skating Team athlete, was appointed USOC General Counsel last week. Savery will begin work with the Sport Partnership Department at the USOC on August 16.
