Norm Osteen of South Carolina has been named 2001 USA Wrestling FILA Junior/University Person of the Year by USA Wrestling, the national governing body for amateur wrestling in the United States. The FILA Junior age level includes athletes ages 17-20 years old. The University age level features athletes 18-24 years old, who have also graduated high school. Osteen is a National Coaches Education Program Silver-level certified coach. He created the nationally respected Strong and Courageous Wrestling Club a decade ago, and has coached a total of 116 age-group All-Americans from the Kids through the Open level. The club, which was created in Hendersonville, N.C., has provided outstanding wrestling opportunities to literally hundreds of athletes. He has served as a coach for the Junior and Cadet National teams for both North Carolina and South Carolina. His efforts have helped the sport of wrestling to grown and strengthen throughout the South. As a coach and leader, Osteen has stressed the concept of sportsmanship as a foundation of the sport to the athletes. This is Osteen's second major USA Wrestling age-group national award.
