Mooney started off the match with a quick hiptoss from his knees and followed with a "Minnesota gut" to start out 5-0. He added an exposure on the edge and another gutwrench to lead 9-0 at the break. A takedown a minute into the second period gave him the victory by tech fall. 105.5 Pounds Brock Zollinger (Idaho) tech fall Alex Contreras (Arizona) 14-4. Zollinger streaked to 5-0 lead with two gutwrenches and a takedown before Contreras used two takedowns and a reversal to an exposure to narrow the gap to 5-4 at the end of the first period. Zollinger then started a roll, hiptossing Contreras and then using three gutwrenches en route to the tech fall. 114.5 Pounds Sam Hazewinkel (Florida) tech fall Corey Kalina (Iowa) 10-0, 1:06. The three-time Florida state champ scored a takedown and then launched Kalina for a five point throw and appreciation point. Hazewinkel then finished the bout with a three point exposure by executing and armdrag from standing. 123 Pounds Travis Lee (Hawaii) tech fall A.J. Lavender (Illinois) 10-0, 5:37. Lee jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the end of the first period featuring a three point throw and appreciation lift point. Lee, Hawaii's first Greco National Champion, scored a takedown with a minute remaining then finished off Lavender with a three point toss. 132 Pounds Cam Jones (Utah) dec. Harry Lester (Ohio) 10-9. Lester's counter attempt didn't get confirmation as time expired and Jones walked away with his third national championship. Jones started the scoring with a gutwrench from par terre after a passivity in the first period. Lester took a 5-2 lead with a three point throw and appreciation lift point. Jones retook the lead with a bodylock throw for three and two points immediately following with a gutwrench to lead 7-5 at the break. Jones spread the lead to 10-6, then Lester chipped away with a takedown and a gut, but didn't score the takedown at the buzzer that would have tied the match. 143 Pounds Trent Paulson (Iowa) pin Zach Lamano (Utah) 1:08. Paulson's headlock right off the whistle finally pinned Lamano in just over a minute. 154 Pounds Matt Nagel (Minnesota) dec. Rob Maxwell (Utah) 4-0. Nagel used a hand to hand exposure with a gutwrench and a takedown to jump to a 2-0 lead. A second period high gutwrench was the only other scoring in a very physical and defensive bout. 165 Pounds Matt Herrington (New York) dec. Darin Harris (Utah) 9-4. Herrington used a steady stream of gutwrenches and a mid-air counter of Harris' throw attempt to take his national championship. 178 Pounds Ryan Halsey (California) dec. Kenny Cook (California) 3-2. Two takedowns and a hand-to-hand gutwrench exposure powered Halsey's championship over teammate Cook. 191.5 Pounds K.C. Walsh (Washington) ref. dec. Jeff Clemons (Ohio) 2-1, OT. Walsh lead 1-0 at the end of regulation courtesy of a lift appreciation point in the first period. Walsh scored a takedown on the edge to score the go ahead point with :48 seconds remaning in overtime for the referee's decision. 220 Pounds Matt Feast (Pennsylvania) dec.
