13 champions crowned at Advocare Cadet Greco-Roman finals

The electricity in the air at the FargoDome at the AdvoCare Cadet National Greco-Roman finals could light up the whole state of North Dakota as the stands continued to rock with excitement for America's top Cadet Greco-Roman wrestlers.     Grant Miller (209) of Roscoe, Ill. and Patrick Barrentine (242) of West Carrollton, Ohio defended their titles successfully as 13 champions were crowned Monday night in Fargo, N.D.    Four states, California, Arizona, Illinois and Ohio, had two champions each.    The star of the night was Eric Tannenbaum of Naperville, Ill. The three-time Cadet National All-American was voted the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament after his 7-0 victory over Kyle Larson of Hermiston, Ore. in the 132-pound final.     Miller was Illinois' other cham[pion, also scoring a 7-0 win over Matt Bauman of Edgar, Wis. in a battle of returning champions. Miller won the 209-pound title last year, Bauman the 182.5-pound title.    Barrentine defeated Chase Wetenkamp of Manitowoc, Wis. 7-1.  The two champions from California were Brett Land (83.5) of Porterville, who defeated Mike Bizzle of Tahlequah, Okla. 5-1 in overtime, Joe Williams (182.5) of Orange, who defeated teammate Jerome Zachariah of Redwood Valley 7-0.    Dustin Schlatter (112) of Westerville, Ohio joined teammate Barrentine as a champion by defeating Drew Headlee of Waynesburg, Pa. 5-2 in another overtime bout.     Nick Gallick (88) of Tucson and Angel Cejudo (121) of Phoenix were Arizona's champions. Gallick defeated Ryan Adams of Coon Rapids, Minn. in the 88-pound final by an 11-0 technical fall in just 1 minute, 12 seconds, while Cejudo scored a 10-0 technical fall over local favorite Phillip Basting of Grand Forks, N.D.     Other champions were Kody Tolliver (94.5) of Great Falls, Mont.,who overcame a 5-0 deficit as he defeated Tyler Safratowich of Park Rapids, Minn. 10-9; Cesar Grajales (103.5) of Brandon, Fla., who blanked Jeff Schell of Zion Grove, Pa. 3-0, Scott Loescher (143) of Portland, Ore., who defeated Ryan Davis of Crownsville, Md. 4-1, Mike Felling (154) of Belgrade, Minn., who defeated Alex Pavlenko of Mesa, Ariz. by a 11-0 technical fall in 1:46, and Chris Hogue (167) of Cochranton, Pa., who edged Nicholas Orlando of Pittsburgh, Calif. 10-8.     Zachariah earned the Gorrarian Trophy for the most falls in the least aggregate time with five falls in 11:13.     The Cadet Greco-Roman finals are the first of four sets of champions to be crowned this week. The Junior Greco-Roman championships will take place Tuesday night, with Cadet freestyle competition beginning Wednesday afternoon.
