The Univ. of Oklahoma To Co-Host 2006 NCAA Wrestling Championships

Event to return to Oklahoma City for first time since 1992    OKLAHOMA CITY - University of Oklahoma Athletic Director Joe Castiglione and Executive Director of the Oklahoma City All Sports Association Tim Brassfield announced today that the 2006 NCAA Wrestling Championships will be held in Oklahoma City's new Downtown Arena March 16-18, 2006.     The University of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City All Sports Association will co-host the event with the All Sports Association handling all ticket sales. It will mark the first time Oklahoma City has been awarded the championships since 1992 and will mark the 10th time overall that the city will have hosted the event.     "This is a great opportunity for not only Oklahoma City, but the entire state of Oklahoma," said Castiglione. "We are very proud to be partnering with the Oklahoma City All Sports Association in bringing back this great event to the Sooner state."     "Obviously, we are very excited that the NCAA has awarded our city the opportunity to once again host the wrestling national championship," added Brassfield. "With the addition of the new arena to downtown Oklahoma City, it only makes sense that we continue to bring in championship caliber events such as this one."      Said Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys, "It is an honor for Oklahoma City to host such a historic championship event. It is also exciting to announce the first national championship to be held in our new Downtown Arena."
